I'd agree. I'd also say that it doesn't need to be constantly there, which is why it seems like air valves constantly going.

I too spent some years commuting (1987-1993) on CIGS & VEPS and I certainly do not recall the ticking sound, however it does seem present on these two videos...

Both videos show unit heritage unit 1497, is it possible it has been fitted with additional equipment?

Before I sound like I'm picking all the faults out and not sounding too positive, I'd like to go on record saying that the model is pretty damn good, and the EP/Auto brake is again a very nice touch. Like I said earlier, a couple of minor niggles (the non-powered B4 bogies look a little chunky in the frame area) but everything seems to present in good detail. RW rarely fails to deliver on model quality, and this is no exception.

The ticking! Oh, the ticking! I cannot ever, ever remember 63 stock having any kind of Spirax valve ticking noises. The only "ticking" was the compressor. When static, EMU's just sat silent, with a quiet whine from the auxiliaries.
Thats just how i remember them too, That and the little tinkle from the spacers under the 3rd rail, dropping back down on the juice pots :D
I've been to Eastbourne too, So what!

The 442 Pigs make the POP noise as they shut off power when they move about in the yard , its quite a loud POP as well and took some getting used to after only being used to plastic units.......

The 442's "Pop" as they stole (borrowed) the traction motors off the REP class. :wink:

Sorry for the thread bump, but I just picked this up with the 50% off sale voucher.

It's okay but, well nothing special really. Supposed to have been made "TS2012 ready" but I didn't see any raindrops on the cab windows in a scenario when it is raining. Sounds are the biggest problem, that annoying constant "click, click" which people reported at the time is still present, the traction sounds rather faint and scratchy and initially dropped out at about 30 MPH requiring a game restart to get them back. No interior view, either.

All in all seems like another quickshot RSC "fire and forget" release, at £5.99 probably about right but I wouldn't have paid full whack for it.

PS: I know there's an AP sound mod for it, but why should I need to go the a third party and pay even more money when the original developer(s) should be attending to that?

Come on Vern, Its an old Unit, its characteristic, whats everyone's problem with the ticking, the real units did it i find it soothing to here that.. The default sounds aren't that great but they are good.

I tell you one thing, RSC managed as best they could with sounds, considering these units are no longer in service, or able to run on the juice under own power....
Kind Regards,

The ticking sound was terrible since release and not really characteristic of the unit, the difference between release and AP's version is leaps and bounds and shows that "the best they did" wasn't their best, since others are still able to get soundsets just fine. Incidentally, RSC were supposed to have "looked into" the sound and consult "experts" over it, but well yeah, that was months ago prior to the TS2012 update, so most stuff got shelved.

The release date also got pushed back twice a day before supposed release date and one can say the original release was just being thrown out the door to get it out prior to TS2012 upgrade.

I don't expect it to be updated anytime soon either.

That's what I thought, seems it was something that strayed into the sound sample taken by RSC or their associate and should have been edited out.

My only complaint with the AP sounds are that the traction motor whine sounds are barely audible, other than that they are a vast improvement on the default RSC sounds. If you could have the motor sounds of the default RSC bolted onto the AP soundpack then it would be perfect in my book.

The RSC sounds are primarily ruined by the awful snare drum track sound which dominates. With the AP soundpack this is not noticeable and the track run sounds are far improved.

* Start RWTools
* Go to Edit assets or whatever the asset editor bit is
* Load cigs
* Select all cigs
* Sounds menu -> change bogie audio control name
* Choose "BG Steam" ( or BG Modern if you want )

Now you'll have the updated RW3 default clickety-clack noises.
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.
