I could be wrong, but aren't cabs in general supposed to be as sound proof as possible?

The sound proofing of cabs varies really. Newer locos/units tend to be more so whilst ones such as the CIG are not so much. Basically, what you hear as a passenger in the leading vehicle is usually what you'll hear from the cab.
Re: Class 421 4CIG - Out Now
I see, which is pretty quiet in the Voyager's case. I'm somewhat torn on the subject of simulating it. We enthusiasts love a bit of noise, don't we? But then again, the object of a simulation is to bring a hobby as close to life as virtually possible. Doubtless, if one would be able to hear the 4CIG traction motors in game, there would have been people complaining also.

Nobody's mentioned this yet, so it might just be me,
If I'm at 100% on the power and i want to drop down to 50%,
I have to go to 0% then back up to 50% or else the power stays full on, although showing only 50%,
Should it be that way?
Or have i got a fault somewhere.
Also, on my flat test track I can only get it up to 86.1 mph.

I've been to Eastbourne too, So what!

That's right for certain EMU control systems, no idea if it's right for a CIG though.
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

It is. The manual explains all!Kariban wrote:That's right for certain EMU control systems, no idea if it's right for a CIG though.

A little artistic licence has been taken, the traction motors are slightly audible from the cab and sound louder in the DTCL nearer the MBSO than the in one separated from it by the TSO

That's probably normal for a single unit, put two together and you have twice the power with only slightly more air resistance.SHEEP wrote:Also, on my flat test track I can only get it up to 86.1 mph.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.

Nice video, Rik. Unit looks nice, as does the cab but the sounds are very disappointing. Quality of them does not match the rest of the unit.
Off topic, but as a non-RW user, are the slamming door sounds supposed to be in sync with doors shutting or are those sounds just played randomly close to departure?

Hi Niall,
The noise of doors slamming is in sync with the doors slamming

H'mm well I think I will pass until/if there's an option to run with the full on "electrothrash" audible in the cab. Whenever I've travelled on an EMU I've always made a point of sitting in the motor car for this very reason even to the extent back in the day, when these were the smoking car as a lifetime non-smoker I would still endure the "haze" to get my fix of the traction whine!

I have to say the traction motor sounds are reasonable given that there are no prototypes running on the juice anymore therefore making it quite hard to get the sounds, and as already stated you can hear the motors from the cab slightly and so from that point of view the model is quite realistic, but other than that the in-cab sounds are seriously lacking.

Re: Class 421 4CIG - Out Now
I've driven a Class 421 and unlike newer trains the sound proofing in the cab was pretty non existant. As i previously posted, the sounds from the 4SUB unit that is freeware on UKTS has pretty much nailed the in cab sounds, and the class 421/423 units are very similar when riding inside them but seems to be lacking this ''realistic'' sound on this occasion. However, i can fully understand the comment made regarding the lack of traction around today to capture more realistic sounds, but maybe a conversation with the author of the 4SUB could be a step in the right direction??

The best feature on the 4SUB sounds is the brake rubbing and squealing - entirely missing from the CIG as far as I could make out.chriswillis81 wrote:I've driven a Class 421 and unlike newer trains the sound proofing in the cab was pretty non existant. I'm sure there's plenty of scope here for someone with the right knowledge to come up with a soundpack improvement.

Thanks for those that were posted!kevpotts wrote:Anyone got a vid they could post of this unit please?
(I'm afraid I can confirm there is no traction motor whine in the cab in real life - although that might be because we're running in push-pull mode with the Crompton at Swanage!)
