Re: Vertex Buffer
Hi Smarty,
A vertex in graphics is the point where two or more lines meet; the models and terrain etc in the sim are made from shapes built from lines, so this is a fundamental element in 3d graphics. The vertex buffer is an area of memory (probably on the gfx card itself) that is used to remember each vertex while the screen is drawn.
The fact you're seeing errors relating to this suggests strongly that the basic gfx software is messed up. It could be the graphics card driver (ATI Catalyst, etc) or DirectX (included with your OS, probably, though RW includes a copy).
I'd suggest you
(a) if possible, download latest applicable version of the gfx card software from the manufacturer's website (don't do to 3rd parties!!)
(b) reinstall the gfx card driver software,
(c) install the copy of DirectX that RW uses. Look here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Install\DirectX9\DXSETUP.exe
[note: on a 32bit OS, your Steam folder won't include " (x86)" ]
HTH,
Ruth

Re: Vertex Buffer
Thanks Ruth for the explanation. I let windows download and install the graphics card driver for my 8800 gtx and went to the microsoft website for the latest end user runtime of Direct X, this problem seems mainly to happen on WCMLN?
Best Regards

Re: Vertex Buffer
Curiously enough, Mart, I don't let MS update my graphics drivers as on the occasions that I have, it's ballsed-up something. I just go to the Nvidia site and download direct.smarty2 wrote:Thanks Ruth for the explanation. As an aside, I too still use 8800GTXs and am on an older driver version (257.21) because of compatibility issues with some titles.
Cheers, Rik.

Re: Vertex Buffer
The latest MS code for DirectX would be v11 I think, but RW needs v9.0c IIRC - the one it needs is the one it includes in the directory I mentioned.smarty2 wrote:Thanks Ruth for the explanation. However, with MS stuff all sorts of weird things can happen and it could be that the disturbance caused by installing something else could fix, or unfix, the problem... very frustrating sometimes!

Ruth
