Just plonk them down, grab with the mouse and drag into position. Then use the keyboard shortcuts to fine tune.

C,N = move towards cammera, move away from camera

Also, but not a keyboard shortcut (I don't think there is one) clicking on the yellow ball of the Gizmo will alter the angle of the object and double clicking on the yellow ball will straighten it up again.

If I can add to Geoff's post, the method he describes is very efficient.
Also, remember you can make multiple pastes after each copy, you don't have to keep copying over and over again. So you can place alot of identical assets very quickly and the keyboard shortcuts (ctrl-c & ctrl-v)come in handy once more to speed it all up.Acorncomputer wrote:Some people put a single example of scenery they are using near the area they are building in and then chose something from that pool by copying and pasting. I didn't know about double clicking either, I've always ended deleting the item instead repairing the misalignment if I accidentally rotate the ball. One for the little black book entitled Route Building - The Dark Arts.
Hey one thing I must share with you guys. The EG track rule is awesome! Main line will take track radius down to 100m so no messing with the yard rule and having to remember to overwrite it back to main line. The little point motors generated at junctions are also quite neat. The only downside is the catenary height seems set quite low which could be a tight squeeze for European locos on electrified sections but I can live with that.
Another neat trick I just picked up today actually is using the gradient tool for roads and rivers is a whole lot quicker than measuring the distance/drop (sounds like Albert Pierrepoint...
) and working the gradient from that. Usually after placing the next level section I move it from the adjacent piece to avoid shifting the whole of the connected sections (sometimes this happens, sometimes it doesn't), do the adjustment then snap it back in place.
BTW Thanks to Paul for looking in (why is it I always think of Peter Jackson the movie director though?). If you or the team could share one thing with us, news on the ETA for the route building updates would be appreciated. I've decided to push on with my current projects regardless but some idea of milestones would be useful.

Aye, the Harviestoun beers are nice. Reminds me that the Paisley Beer Festival will be at the end of the month. Beer, Bratwurst & a short train journey. 
Back on topic, I've only been a member of the Forums for just over a year, but I've picked up lots of little tips along the way. At the same time I've tried to give a little back with a few freeware scenarios & to give advice or pointers, if I can.
To me, RW is getting better all the time. The core is being worked on, quality releases are coming or have just been released from payware developers & if you care to look at what is already available in the UKTS Library & what is currently WIP, there are some very talented people giving away their fine work.
