Identifying Assets

Post by yeovilrig »

I am having real problems identifying stock being used in my scenarios, I think that I have correctly identified the assets for half of the community to tell me otherwise.
I will withdraw the 50 Terminator along with the Summer Saturday and correct these scenarios and re-upload them. I’m sure that I have identified the biggest problem – the DT mk 1 + mk 2e coaches, I have both versions (RW +RS) and have made consists using both models at the same time (I think), which is why nobody can properly identify what I have used.
I think the best way for me is to download reskins, only when I need them, so I can properly work out what asset is what.
I enjoy making scenarios and have learnt a lot but not being able to identify stock correctly is really compromising my work.

One option is to get RW Tools - http://www.rstools.info/rw_tools.html It's donationware, but worth every penny you can spare. It can list all the stock used in a scenario, which can help trying to track down what's going on.

I'm afraid I can't help - I too get confused - but this is one area I mentioned in my support request to RS that I later posted on the forums: http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 8#p1400448

Perhaps if you post your thoughts to support@ there's a chance the RS folk will be able to justify the effort?

Hi there. I too enjoy creating scenarios and trying out those which are shared by other members of the community, but in many cases it seems that the uploaders have difficulty compiling a list of the stock they have used. To try to combat this, and also to help myself, I created a spreadsheet of as many items of RailWorks stock as I could find. Having mentioned it on the forums once or twice, I had some discussions with Matt from UKTS and he has taken my spreadsheet a step further by making a query page within the UKTS website. With a listing of rolling stocks items from a scenario (using RW Tools), it can tell you what payware, freeware or reskin items are needed.

The database is in no way comprehensive as it's based on what I have installed, but over time it can be added to if others can contribute, or as I buy new products. The query results page is still in an early format too and needs to be streamlined from a visual point of view, but it does work very well.

Feel free to try it out. Any feedback is most welcome.

The principle sounds really interesting and useful, but the page mentioned doesn't tell me enough to know how to enter the information and where it's from. Could someone add a paragraph to the page explaining this, and include an example of what it would look like?

Is there also a link that would enable someone to add entries to the list of known items?

Thanks, Ruth
