Bargain....

Post by saffy98 »

Hi,

PC World have reduced the price of Railworks 1 TORNADO edition to
£2.97  Yep thats correct £2.97, the price on the cover shows £4.95
but when I took it to the till it had gone down. A true bargain. My local
branch ( Perth ) still has about 5 copies on the shelf, also got the Voyager
for £4.95, well worth checking out. :D

Now the big question. I take it that I would just have to install the lot
under my existing steam account to get the Tornado in, or is it likely to
re-install Rw all over again taking ages with the add ons I've already got.

Cheers

Steve.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if DLCs can be added to an existing account in this way.. What you'll need to do is register the CD key for the product, but if you've already got Railworks on your account "Steam" might class it as a duplicate and leave it as a 'Gift' on your account (i.e you can 'Gift' it to a friend or another Steam account).

If it does recognise the DLC content (the Tornado) with the CD key, then in theory you should just need to enter the product key and Steam will simply download the DLC. It shouldn't overwrite your Railworks2 installation as it's older, and won't have the correct (current) checksums.

Guess it must be getting close to RW3 release time then.... :D :D :D

Seriously a bit worrying as no one, least of all RSC, can be making much money on that - unless it's seen as a loss leader to get people on board buying the DLC.

I thought it was quite simple, it's discontinued stock? Considering the same stockist has the Railworks 2 boxed version it's natural they will sell this one off.

I guess from the retailer's point of view that is an obsolete edition of the game. If they've missed their "return to supplier" window on it, then it's effectively a write off, so anything they make on it, even such a measly amount as three quid, is a bonus.

Agree totally, it's simply discontinued stock being sold off for whatever they can get for it and not any kind of marketing strategy. That would also be why trainsim.com has had the equivalent US package to the Tornado edition (RW + an unmentionable DLC) going for just $20 for quite a long time now.

It also seems to be a clear vindication of customers loving Steam. Once you get used to the click-click-buy-play routine you'll never go back to being ripped off by bricks and mortar stores.

Just spotted this one while browsing for some DVDs: £14.85 @Zavvi.com with free shipping, of course far away from the bargain at that store but still a good price ;) Tornado edition is listed there, too but sold out.
