Hm, I need to find some scenarios for Quinte; wish one of the us sites had a library as organised as this one

Interesting stuff!
Not really into the the US stuff normally, but these SW1500s seem just the ticket!
The ones at Merehead and Whatley are SW1001s, by the way. Notice (amongst of things) the difference in the shape of the cab here:

Looking forward to getting to drive these things

The Class 59s spawned from the SD40-2. The Class 66 spawned from the SD60.

All important question then... How's the physics?
Given this is a 1500hp loco (i.e. slightly more powerful than a BR Class 31, slightly less powerful than a UK Class 37) can anyone report on performance - specifically:-
If you put a heavy load behind it, say 350 - 400 tonnes does the train accelerate slowly or does it take off like a bat out of hell?
Once up to cruising speed, is it necessary to throttle right back to the dreaded 20% or is a reasonable amount of throttle needed to hold the power-cruise?
Answers appreciated as I might genuinely be interested in getting this (particularly if Steam have an Easter sale) but not if the physics are all messed up.

As a road switcher I'd expect it to have rather a lot more tractive effort than a 31 anyway, and rather less top speed...

Main physics issue is the brakes I would say.. It seems to stop on a dime but I'm not sure if that's a fault with the model or the usual fault with the stock (or certain stock) not having any effect.. Other than that I think its not to bad compared to other releases from RS.. Still seems to hit speeds and hold them in what seems like the wrong notch but Im not to sure how this runs in reality.. Nice though to see such a good pack with so many liveries.. Excellent cab and nice positive controls

Good afternoon everyone
I think these locos are very impressive
Kind regards Stephen

From what I’ve seen with my short time with them, they seem to suffer from the same
borked physics as the rest of the NA equipment.
The majority of the SW1500’s that I’ve run in the real world have been used in yard service for flat switching with an occasional industry switch close to the terminal.
When flat switching you rely on the independent brake (straight air) not the automatic/train brake (since obviously you don’t have air on the cars). When stopping you usually rapidly apply and release the independent brake avoiding sliding the wheels and gather up the slack.
The independent brake with the SW1500 model (just like I’ve seen with the rest of the RW NA locomotives) doesn’t seem to release quick enough and almost reacts more like the automatic brake. Unless you use the HUD there’s no way to quickly apply the independent anyway (although you could unrealistically look down and use the mouse).
Also with the throttle in what would be considered notch one through eight I can still use the reverser (switch from forward to reverse). In the real world there is an interlock that prevents the operator from moving the reverser while the throttle is in the notch 1-8 position.
In addition as we’ve seen with the rest of the models the amp meter doesn’t work properly.
But again like the rest of the models for RailWorks they are nice looking for screen shots.

I thought those switchers looked familiar. I know one reskin that would seriously tempt this UK simmer:

Hiya djt01,
When you say independent brake, you refer to the "Loco Brake" right? If you do you can use "[" and "]" for applying those.

Yes I know you can use the keyboard, but you can’t apply and release it repeatedly as quick as you can with the HUD or mouse.
Trainz actually allows you to apply and release the independent brake in “
Cab” mode by just tapping the
E key which works very well.

If all you want is an on/off loco brake, use the handbrake key.
