If I remember rightly the announcement was that they hoped to have it ready for testing by April/May-ish, so I expect we've still got a bit of a wait

That could be the issue then. I thought it was scheduled for April.

hi!

it would be great if RS.com could tell us a little bit more about their graphical improvements.
we (3D modellers) like to know what we can expect from this update.

can we place unlimited light sources on a map?
i also read something about improved shadows. but which technic will they use, shadow mapping?
so that 2D trees also throw a nice shadow on the ground? and will there be dark tunnels if a train drive into it?

i actually work on a city map, with many buildings. but i dont want to export the models to railworks, because i dont know what in can expect from the update, and when it will be released.

i hope someone understand me. :)

Hi,
You will not find the answers here on UKTS. I suggest you ask on RS.coms facebook page for an update.
That's where all the action is and RS.com staff read, and where you are most likely to get a reply from someone who knows.

regards

Derek

Our loss I suppose but I do not much care for Facebook either. Significant information copied back to UKTS is welcome.

Sorry Derek, I won't touch Facebook - too many dodgy links (i.e linking to trojans via shortend URL links, etc.. and other viri), personal information breaches, privacy settings that aren't that private, etc.. (Lots of information on the BBC Technology page(s) over the past few years & other security sites).

My loss I guess, but I value both my personal information & sanity by not having to remove viri every few weeks..

Edit: Some links http://www.pcworld.com/article/160545/f ... _week.html (Five Security problems in one week!
http://www.pcworld.com/article/216850/f ... tk.mod_rel (Facebook gives your home address to developers)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12214628 Phone number and address sharing (a U-Turn, but doesn't mean that they won't do other things in the future)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-10796584 (Details of 100M Facebook users leaked to the web)

Quote from "pcworld" article
"In 2010, Facebook users fell prey to numerous scams and malware attacks such as clickjacking, the Ikea gift card scam, dislike button scam, the Russian hacker who claimed he was selling 1.5 million Facebook user login credentials, Boonana malware, malicious ads found in a Facebook application and likejacking, to name just a few. The idea that malicious applications in 2011 could get access to some of your most personal information is unsettling, to say the least."

etc, etc..

There's always the option of reading Facebook and not clicking on links :P

I find that clicking on 'see all 15 comments' or similar reveals just three or four comments that don't make much sense.

Sigh ... It's a different World really :o

One could always read only the links that RS.com put on their front page. Do it in a private browsing window if you want to be really careful.

Facebook is just like any other part of the internet, if you are sensible at not clicking on links that are obviously suspect then you'll be okay.

Significant news travels fast so it is not really necessary to trawl through the enthusiastic posts on Facebook to keep up with the important developments.

I am still not quite sure where we are with the improved lighting engine but I am confident that it will arrive when it is ready and it will be big news everywhere.
