Hi Adam
Since you posted this I think I have answered the query by pm.
What I didn't say is that some early versions of ToAce just did not work and only later versions were OK so you might be trying to use one of the very old versions. As I suggested, use .tga format with RWAce Tool or try and locate a copy of the last ToAce program issued which will convert .jpg format.

Try TGA, TIFF, BMP or PNG.woods45 wrote:Hi
What ever .jpg image I try and load into To Ace it comes up with File Load Error. Is there any way I can resolve this please?

Re: To Ace utility
Following on from my own question this afternoon, using RWace isn't that consistent as it takes a very specific .tga format. I use Paint.net and having just mastered 3DC don;t feel like trying another graphics program as well. .tga files exported by either paint.net or dxtbmp don't load alpha layers into RWace. However I found out quite by accident that RWace will take .png files created either directly or from a .dds file in DXTbmp.
I find that ace thing a bit of a pain to be honest but I do need "working" ace files as I am still working through scenery and stock builds using the blueprint and asset editor. I learnt the hard way to back up my Railworks texture files as every time I recreated the bluprint they were overwritten.
It would be fab if a converter from dds to ace format was available, or from 24bit bmp files aka flightsimulator.

Hi
I use GIMP exclusively now (it is free
) which does just about everything that I will ever need. You can get a .dds plug in also but I use the .tga format with the RWAce tool and I have no problems at all with conversion to ace.

Re: To Ace utility
Surely as you are using 3D Crafter (or the original 3D Canvas), you never need to worry about .ace files. 3DC runs best with .tga files and when you export them to RailWorks (as long as you have ToAce.exe in the RailWorks folder), it converts the files automatically and you never even need to look at them.
The Blueprint editor then converts these to .tgpcdx files when you export your model from the Source folder to the Assets folder and you still don't see them.

Re: To Ace utility
Hi guys,
What ever graphic program you may have it, is easy enough to save your JPG textures to TGA, PNG, TIFF or BMP and then use RW Ace tool; to save them in ACE format. Or am I missing something here? I rather think that this is a case of complaining just for something to do. JPG files are in my opinion not the best format for graphics and I always save as PNG.
I have my own website and am also the webmaster for the local U3A. I have found that PNG will allow you to increase the size of the graphics with less lost than would be with JPG.
I will admit that it would be nice to just click one button to save to ace, but you have to live with what you have, so stop complaining. I do have one click saving to ace because I bought Photoshop 7 some years ago; and there is support for Kuju textures for it, in the form of a very good plug in.

Re: To Ace utility
er... I am not complaining..actually.
The point is that I use RWace but that my chosen graphics editor ( Paint.net ) won't produce .tga files that RWace can convert. If you use .tga with alpha in 3DC than the alpha shows up in 3DC and I need to work without the alpha at present. Does 3DC convert .tga to .ace ? Does 3DC convert graphic files at all ? - I didn't know it did as everythign I have read suggests that you have to do that yourself and the the files in 3DC are only used by 3DC. Great news if it does
