I'd love to see Ben Law's Adelante 180 converted to RW for use on the Paddington - Oxford route.

Hi All,

Having a quick play with this and have hit a snag. Sorry mods if this isn't in the right area - please feel free to move/make a new topic.

I've followed the first video tutorial as far as 03:30 (texturing the model) however I find that my building is 'one piece' as opposed to being several selectable pieces, and ends up with this:

The original MSTS building is made up of five textures rather than one. Could this be the issue?

I confess to being an absolute newbie with 3DS Max - so is this something I should just leave to other people or keep persuing?

Dave, its fine, as long as the msts model is yours,(which I am sure it is) or you have the necessary permission to do so, and that does include screenshots.

I have a couple of msts models that I would like to see in RW, so carry on.

I successfully converted the freight vehicle in the video tutorial for use in RailWorks, using 3DC Canvas 7.1.2. Unfortunately, for some reason, I am having problems with 3DCrafter 8 - I am getting an error when I import the 3DS object. There appears to be a 'bug' in the import plug-in for 3DS objects.

I also converted a coach with 3DC Canvas 7.1.2. However, this seems to be more complicated, as I used alpha textures for the windows of the coach in MSTS rather than the 'punch-out' procedure recommended for Railworks, so even after the conversion, a lot of additional work will be needed to get the vehicle ready for Railworks. New couplings will also be needed.

Many MSTS assets also used alpha channels for the wheels and bogies to avoid extra polygons. An advantage of 3D Canvas is that 'real' wheels can now be modelled and thereby avoid the rotation problems that occasionally occurred when alpha channels were not applied with 100% accuracy in the original MSTS model.

I have installed Shape Converter on my new computer running Windows 7 64 bit, and also have Microsoft TrainSimulator installed and it runs OK.

When I try to convert an s file on my new computer, I get a message "Error can't convert to Unicode".

Every thing worked fine on my old computer which ran Windows XP. What do I need to do to get it to work on a computer running Windows 7 64 bit?

It turns out that the Shape Converter wants MSTS to be in the C:Program Files folder, even though I had it pointed at the actual install in the C:Program Files (86).

So I just copied the MicrosoftGames>Trainsim folder from C:Program Files (86) and pasted a duplicate copy into C:Program Files, and everything works fine.

It seems you only actually need the FFedit folder from the msts install.

it also looks like it wants to use the Registry keys for msts to find the folders. (I do not have the registry keys on my Windows 7 system.)

There is a Class 180 being built from scratch for RW currently, so probably no need for a conversion from an older MSTS model.
