Re: Running on empty
One key thing to remember is that you don't need to go too fast. After this topic popped up I played the scenario again for the first time in ages, using manual firing. By keeping to a maximum speed of 25mph on the uphill parts and letting the fire die down a bit to not produce too much steam, I managed to arrive at Evercreech Junction with 0.79 boiler level and 58 gallons in the tender.

Re: Running on empty
no luck mates, stuck here, any tips about autofireman ?

i am stressed by this scenario. if possible submit a video on youtube that would be great help, Thanks for your help thus far.

Ah, at the moment I'm busy with physics investigations and various real-life duties. But I might be able to make a video demo later on.

thanks mate, waiting desperately.
Re: Running on empty
I tried this again without autofireman the thing I face in manual firing is I can't keep the values to 220 as jackgrave told me to, (steam chest pressure and the above of it) they continually drops no matter what I do, and whenever I use any injector to increase water level the water gallons drop like hell.

Re: Running on empty
Good news: I've finally found time to make the how-to video I promised. Now processing it so that YouTube will accept it. I'm going to have to upload it in three parts - up the hill, down the hill, and from Evercreech New onwards - because it takes about 45 mins to complete and YouTube only allows 15-minute segments.
Using manual firing, I managed to arrive in Evercreech Jn with over 300 gallons left in the tender!
So if you know what you're doing, it's actually not a difficult scenario at all.
You don't have to keep the boiler pressure up in this scenario - keeping it too high will just lift the safety valves anyway. Nor do you have to keep your speed constant while going uphill - the slower you go, the less steam you consume anyway. The real tricks are to minimise your steam *production* (while still having enough to climb the hill), and to only use the injectors when absolutely necessary (since they are what empty the tender). I found the various slacks in the gradient very useful, too.
I'll update later on when I've uploaded the video.

Re: Running on empty
mate I can upload videos of more than 100 minutes on youtube, if you can manage to bring down the video size near 100 MB or less than please upload it to megaupload or hotfile etc I would like to see this in one peace :p
and thanks alot for making the video, I couldn't finish through this scenario only, I've completed all other steam scenarios thus far... Thanks again...

Re: Running on empty
I can't make a 45-minute video into only 100MB, at least not without obscuring the details of how I'm driving the train - which is, after all, what you want. Bear in mind that my master files for this video alone total 80GB.
The first upload went skewiff, but I've found the Handbrake setting which caused that and now I'm re-encoding them. This will take a while, but as I said, I'll post again when it's ready to watch.

Re: Running on empty
Finally... who knew that dealing with video could be this frustrating? There's still an audio sync problem, but I'm giving up on that for now.
