You need to select and purge the entire Railworks folder, rather than just the Assets folder. Zero-byte files in the scenario folders are a common source of problems.

Just a warning about another possible cause of SBHH -

Due to a change in the format of ScenarioProperties.xml files built since the introduction of RailWorks 2 - If you use RW_Tools to substitute rolling stock into one of the new format ScenarioProperties.xml files this may well cause a problem like this.

The ScenarioProperties.xml files now include a <RBlueprintSetPreLoad> section which lists the Provider/Product entries for rolling stock used in the Scenario. This did not appear in earlier format files. Thus if you substitute a loco built by person ABCD for one built by one by WXYZ then the file will not include ABCD as a Provider and crash on you.

On top of this there is a new <LocoName> entry in this file so I do not believe I can overcome this, and will have to add code to RW_Tools when users attempt to change a Scenario that it is one of the new files and can't be altered.

Of course Career Mode Scenarios can't be altered in any case.

Hi,

Using RW tools it seemed to find over one thousand zero length files, does this sound about right, and should I delete all of these?

1. Further to my posting above, this does not seem to be as bad as I first thought, it seems that it MIGHT cause a problem under certain circumstances, but all those I have tested it with today worked fine with the swapped locos. I will put a warning in RWT that there might be a problem, but it does seem to depend a bit upon what is being swapped.

Hi Peter,

That is quite posible, I just checked mine and found 180 and they were just in a package of payware items I downloaded recently...

This worked for me recently. Hope it works for you too.M
I managed to delete the zero byte files from your instructions and did another verify cache but still no good. I had an external hard drive back up I did 2 weeks ago so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game from the Railworks disc as a last resort. It took about 6 hours to re download everything and at the end of it, it worked fine. I never lost any of my 3rd party assets and content either - everything was there as before so I didn't have to reload everything from my backup into the Railworks folder. Thanks for all your help anyway.

Glad you are sorted Jimmy.

I think I may have a bigger problem. I tried to load one of the default Newcastle York scenarios and it told me the HAA hoppers were missing. I went to edit and there seems to be lots of track missing and I could see the squares on the base of the tiles. So I think a reinstall is in order.

Thankyou Mike for your advice. I now have a licenced copy of RW Tools and will be putting it to good use, it looks like an excellent utility.
