Problems with Knotty Lines

Post by alanch »

Once upon a time, not long ago, this route worked for me, and I managed to drive a couple of Pat Dalton's scenarios (although one did crash before the end). Now, whatever I do, loading the route always ends in a SBHH. If anyone has any ideas after reading this, they will be welcome.

I am running Railworks on a Dell Dimension 9150 with Intel Pentium D Dual Core 3GHz processor, 3Gb of memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5500 graphics card. Railworks is installed on a separate Hitachi disc drive from the system , and I'm running Windows XP Pro, fully patched. At the point when Knotty Lines crashes I usually have at least 800Mb of free memory.

Every other route appears to work correctly, as do the scenarios I have run recently, including a couple on WCML North. I do sometimes get SBHH, but usually because I have run out of memory

So far, I have removed the route folder completely and re-installed from the downloaded files - twice - and then re-installed the scenarios. Each time the route and scenarios have checked out fine with RW-Tools. I've tried loading a scenario to run, and to edit, and I've tried loading the route to edit. I've removed all the scenarios, and tried editing the route - same result.

I've checked the file cache on Steam, and that updated correctly.

I've enabled Logmate, and nothing obvious stands out, although these extracts might give a clue - all are repeated several times:

Content 14:40:39] Trace C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\CoreLibrary\cEntity.cpp : 1246 = Missing blueprint set "\"
[Content 14:40:40] Trace C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\CoreLibrary\cEntity.cpp : 1262 = Missing blueprint ""

[Content 14:40:42] Trace C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\DLLs\DataManagement\cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 325 = Blueprint set not found : \BarnsRS, \BarnsRS\Cornish Branch Line

The last few line are:

[RunTimeError 14:41:36] Assertion failed
[RunTimeError 14:41:36]
[RunTimeError 14:41:36] ASSERT(mStartPos.isNearCurrentOrigin());

[RunTimeError 14:41:36] C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\CoreLibrary\cCurveStraight.cpp : 367
[RunTimeError 14:41:37] Assertion failed
[RunTimeError 14:41:38]
[RunTimeError 14:41:38] ASSERT(mStartPos.isNearCurrentOrigin());
[RunTimeError 14:41:38]
[RunTimeError 14:41:38] cCurveStraight::setTangent()
[RunTimeError 14:41:38]
[RunTimeError 14:41:38] C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\CoreLibrary\cCurveStraight.cpp : 367
[RunTimeError 14:41:43] Assertion failed
[RunTimeError 14:41:43]
[RunTimeError 14:41:43] ASSERT(mStartPos.isNearCurrentOrigin());
[RunTimeError 14:41:43]
[RunTimeError 14:41:43] cCurveStraight::setTangent()
[RunTimeError 14:41:43]
[RunTimeError 14:41:43] C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\CoreLibrary\cCurveStraight.cpp : 367

I've sent the SBHH Dump file and the Logmate file to Railsimulator.com, but that is in the hope, as I said in my email, that it will improve their error reporting and resilience, as I don't expect them to support a third party route.

I've run Sysinternals Process Monitor, filtering for RailWorksProc2.exe, and nothing obvious shows up there at the point when RW crashes.

DISCLAIMER

I know there is another thread about the Knotty Lines, but I don't want to clutter it up with my problems.

Sorry to hear of your problem with your copy of Knotty Lines Route, I'm afraid to say I can't think of anything that you can try, that you haven't already done.

The only things I would ask is, have you checked for 0 byte files and are you running Alchemy for EAX effects (if so turn it off and try the Route).

Best I can suggest I'm afraid. :(

Because, you said "any ideas".
But I do hate "Delete bluprint help" and "Verify Cache Help".

For Me, I experienced more than 100 of SBHH with more than couple of reasons....
But I have resolved EVERY of them...

BY How???
There is no ROYAL road to singular SBHH. - DON'T expect much from "Verify Cache" - It could be just waste of time.

It looks like SBHH happens everytime you run it.
Then read my previous post...
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 8#p1351328

If I am in your case , I can say I can fix this SBHH within 2 Hours by this method... (Be careful with "If"),
as I did with EVERY SBHH...

NOTE:
I just ran KnottyLIbes with Logmate ON!.
I also got everything like you...
So, No information can be drawn from Logmate...

Hi Alan
I am also having trouble. I have uninstalled the route and letsrole folder and put in a clean install of 1.2 with the single free roam which loads but as soon as i go to edit it freezes. It does work in an old vers 108 of railworks which you might try other than that i too am at a loss.

Regrettably this is one of only 2 routes I cannot run either (P&LE being the other).

On a separate install of RW could get into it and drive a few bits before a SBHH and could rarely edit.

Running Win 64 bit with now 6GB of RAM so assume not a RAM issue. Unless a meaningful error reporting system is devised I am stumped.

I've spent all morning removing asset folders form my install using the binary split method, and then waiting for the route to run in the editor - or not. I'm not sure I'm getting consistent results, but so far I've found a few folders that appear to stop the route loading. I'm going to work through all the rest, and then I'll report back what I find.

With reluctance, I've abandoned my attempt to get this route to work for me. I've spent most of today moving folders in and out of my assets and loading the route into the editor, but I can't get any consistent view of what is causing the problem, and the route often crashes after appearing to load. Most of the time I get an SBHH before it gets to the default scenario marker, sometimes after that has loaded and sometimes after that when I move around.

Same here and doing that with the P&LE. Cannot get consistent results.

It seems as though something in these 2 routes just will not play for me. I can load and play many other very large routes with little issue.

Not the author's fault of course but really needs a real error reporting tool to say wether scenery, asset or what.

So true - that's why I've been sending dump and log files to RS.com, even though I know there is no chance of getting direct support.

I received a human reply from Railsimulator.com in response to my email with Dump and Logmate files - no direct support, of course, because the problems are with third party content, but the files will be passed on to their coders, so maybe error reporting will eventually improve.
