Whistles no longer work

Post by Drogba11CFC »

I recently installed 92212's sound updates. However, the whistles on the Black 5 and 8F no longer work. I didn't back up the files, so do I have to verify the game cache to get things back to normal?

Yes, getting a corrupted installation back to working order is the main purpose of Steam's cache verification tool.

"Verify game cache" - What a waste of time!
Rather it may be faster to copy from backup-ed working files.(better to do backup always!)
Also "veryfing game cache" not always waranty game running.

But I think all this(Verify, copy) is not a ultimate solution.
RW is evolving and very flexible(In other words very vulnerable) system
Also it is very user-adjustabe(fixable, tunable) system.

Does RW seem flexbie to you? or does RW seem vulnerble to you?
It depends on user, user's attribute!.

As long as someone want use new feature(sound, repaint, and this and that cool stuff from UKTS library),
this kind of corruption will happen again and again by any reason(author fault, users fault).

The best way is to learn the basic fixing skill by yourselves.
It is not that hard.
Just serzing and Seraching and Editing... and some more.
But once you have learned it, You can use every cool stuff from UKTS libary without fear.

"Correcting Whisle problem" not a formidable task. Just really easy task.
Try it, For next cool stuff.

Once you have tightten your mind, let me kmnow.
I can be of your help.

Hi
Did the whistles stop working right after you installed the updates or did they work at first and then stopped?

'They thought it would be a good idea to build it next to the railway line.....'

That's not very helpful for a person who did not have a backup available to restore from!

For the average user who is more interested in keeping a stable environment, keeping a backup of just the Steam content (or maybe Steam content plus third-party payware, it's up to you) would be a good move. Before I add any third-party content my railworks folder comes to 12.0GB, which is not a problem for me with the amount of free hardware space I have available. I have then used 7-zip to compress it down to 2.1GB for storage on a DVD-R with the installers for all my third-party payware.

They stopped working right after I installed the updates. At least, the first time that I tried a steam scenario after installation.

I've had trouble with the second part of 2 tone diesel horns not working properly either, in particular the latest update of the 47 sounds from AP.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can usually only get one tone to work.

So easy that you didn't feel the need to explain to him how?

Ok!

I will say rhather than so-called "delete blueprint" or "verify cache" help.

I just downloaded UKTS_25039_New_RW_sounds.zip.
And just looked at what has it inside.

First,
It has ReadmeFIRST.rtf, which clearly saying that
"There are a small selection of new sounds I use provided. I thought I’d share them. You’ll either love them or hate them.
Don’t forget to back up at this point!!
Try the sounds and refer back to default if you don’t like them. Just trying to get a little variety into RW!"

So, Backuping-up black5 Audio directory will just take 1 M Hard Disk space
and just 1 second to do.
So, it is clearly your fault not doing backup, when installing apps which modify default assests.
And I strongly recommend to do backup what you are overwriting - not the whole Railworks2(It is stupid thing in some sense.)

Second,

It's conents has DT kngtranis and RSC audio files.
This has no relation with Black5, so this can be safely ignored.

The things need to be cheked is:

Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Black5\7F Chuff.proxyxml
Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Black5\7F.proxyxml
Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Black5\Black5 Chuff.proxyxml
Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Black5\Black5.proxyxml

Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Black5\Cabs\Black5 Whistle.proxyxml

Go to these directory, And see there are these files.
If there is no, re-install UKTS_25039_New_RW_sounds.zip

Among these whiles,
Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Black5\Cabs\Black5 Whistle.proxyxml
is directly related with Black5 whistle.

Open this file with any Editor, - it is just normal text files.
There you will see,

<Sample>
<kLoud-cSampleID>
<Pathname d:type="cDeltaString">Kuju\RailSimulator</Pathname>
<Filename d:type="cDeltaString">Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Black5\Black5_whistle02.wav</Filename>
</kLoud-cSampleID>
</Sample>

Check this sample is realyy there.

If you have time, Open all of the ****.proxyxml, listed above.
And check whether the Sample files are really there.

I think this is not a formidable task to do.
After checking all of thses files, delete blueprint files and re-run RW.
It should work!

Because you saild, you have NO backup!!1

Here is whole contents of original

Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Black5\Cabs\Black5 Whistle.proxyxml

So, if every trial fails....
Just copy and paste the followings to Black5 Whistle.proxyxml

IF THIS COPY DOES NOT WORK, THAT MEANS your problem is not coming from "updating black5 sound".

I tried that, but it hasn't worked, so I'm verifying the game cache now.

"Installed 92212's sound updates" MEANS that it only chages the above 5 proxyxml files.

"Black5 Whistle does not work" MEANS that only Black5 Whistle.proxyxml is related.

"I tried that, but it hasn't worked" MEANS that the problem is not coming from "Installed 92212's sound updates".

There is something else, you do not notice, which made your RW2 corruption.
