Re: Railworks Technical Update
I must admit the new features look rather interesting, I have my doubts over the online at this moment in time, I will wait and see for 1) more videos or 2) first hand experience of it, before making my judgement, although the idea sounds very good. I am very interested in the new lighting effects and the block assets, they look like they will be a massive time saver
really looking forward to the new toys RSC
Re: Railworks Technical Update
Lighting sounds nice, but I really like the sound of the block assets. While the guys are looking at the route building side of things, I hope they look at reducing the terrain mesh some....
But good news that they're looking at the core game.

Re: Railworks Technical Update
This is neat and all, but they are talking to hopefully start beta testing in April for MP. The rest sounds like it's also 1/2 way complete. We'll see this update in about 5-6 months.. If not longer.
Re: Railworks Technical Update
Fantastic news ! The NEC and game update coming late 2011.. Happy happy.
Once again the Railworks team keep updating the simulation, bravo guys. Much appreciated... 2011 will indeed be an interesting RW year.
Thanks RW team

Re: Railworks Technical Update
Look forward to the updates.
With regards to the lighting updates. Will this allow for cabs to go dark in tunnels and for dash board illumination to work?

Forgot to also ask if a train passes under a light will the light illuminate the train?

Re: Railworks Technical Update
I Am SO looking forward to seeing the multiplayer mode.
I am so glad that they are working on this! This really will make Railworks something even more special than it already is!
Block assets looks set to be a cracking new feature, it is my biggest failing when making routes, glad that Bulk producing things like trees has finally come to route building!
a couple little worrys though, with regards to multiplayer.
1. Only 6 Players? That's a shame, as with more, you could really give the signallers a challenge. (I Dont mean to sound greedy) But if you could have 16 or even 34 players in one scenario, it would make things incredible!
2. Some people would only go on these games to mess around and possibly cause accidents, Im guilty of this as Ive done it for some of my videos. Im guessing there would be some scenarios or rooms created so people can do this freely, and some rooms created for SERIOUS game play?
3: Add ons. Say player A has got the Tornado pack, and player B hasnt, will they be able to play in the same scenario together?
4: I wonder if it would be possible to have a route set up, say, Bath - Templecoombe. a load of wagons are in the sidings, and there are 10 players, 2 signallers, 2 shunters and 6 drivers. the trains would need to be formed, and set up and sent on their merry way with everyone working together, the signallers would have a real good job, having to deal with shunting movements as well as incoming/outgoing trains. But what if you dont have enough players? would there still be an automatic signaller?
I guess it is still early days yet, its not even in beta testing. Might be worth a mention though.
anywho, its christmas!!! MERRY XMAS EVERYONE!"!!

Re: Railworks Technical Update
I suppose the "6 maximum" is for ease of creation and testing initially. Once it is up and running, it could logically move on to greater numbers. Pointless running before you can walk.
At the moment, I guess we don't know exactly how the structure will work (unless I missed a FB comment) in regards to if we have to bond our own connections via something like Hamachi or whether there will be dedicated servers or rooms, even with the possibility of having private rooms for ourselves to only "play" with chosen people, something I would prefer to a public environment where you could easily encounter an idiot who just wanted to spoil everything by crashing.
I suppose we just have to wait for more details but it is exciting. Is it restricted to free roam only or can scenarios be created specifically for it? If the latter, amazing, I would happily create scenarios specifically for a select band of people utilising stock they have the most before embarking on a 2-3 hour session where we all follow the rules and let the dispatcher take it's toll!

That sounds awfully philosophical for Christmas Eve!TheTazman wrote:Forgot to also ask if a train passes under a light will the light illuminate the train?

Re: Railworks Technical Update
Will depend on the implementation ,, i.e. how far will they push the envelope . Ideally , user defined light sources would include everthing from signal lamps to external lighting on locomotives and lighting on tunnel walls ( as is common in some places ) .. also see the pics of carnival assets from RailX , should also be possible to light these up nicely .TheTazman wrote:Look forward to the updates.

Re: Railworks Technical Update
Great news, keep on hacking away RSC at the code
Be nice to have some realistic lighting effects.

Re: Railworks Technical Update
Hi,
Will this new technical update be determined by the transition to the new DirectX instead of the current 9.0c?

Re: Railworks Technical Update
Yep indeed. Many other games can do this. Rail works should look like it does on the start up screen.

Re: Railworks Technical Update
Could we see a screenshot of what the new lighting system could potentially do please?
