New user questions ...

Post by MisterWho »

I installed RW2 at the weekend and have been having quite a lot of fun, plus some frustration.

As a new user, I find the new driving interface very helpful. It's terrific to have the same controls available for most of the different locomotives, regardless of type - makes it much easier to get started. I'm sure I'll graduate to the "expert" controls at some point though. So far, I've only run a couple of scenarios once, and "chasing yellows" quite a few times. For some reason, this particular scenario offers a fair amount of attraction for me, plus a couple of little niggles.

Question 1 - speed limits. At the bottom of the "simple" controls, there's the bar showing the gradient and approaching signals, stations and speed limits. The current speed limit is also shown just beneath the current train speed. Why is there a significant delay (around 5 seconds) between passing a speed limit sign and that number beneath the current train speed being updated ? Is this because the scenario dictates the actual limits to which we should adhere, and that means there may be temporary lower limits in places which would not show on the "gradient / signal / limit" display ?

Question 2 - changing the "chasing yellows" scenario. Because I'm enjoying this scenario, I'd like to try driving some other trains rather than the HST, including the Scotsman and 390 which I bought with RW2. How do I go about using a different train in a default scenario ?

Thanks in advance for any answers,
moi

You shouldn't accelerate to a higher speed until the whole of your train has passed the point where the limit changes, just like real drivers have to adhere to. RW now reflects this. Conversly, you should slow down before the front of your train reaches a lower limit.

If only you could adjust speed limits in a scenario, that would make for a more interesting experience.
Expanding the TS wagon fleet.

Thanks for the quick replies. If I'm going to change the train in a default scenario, I suppose I should clone the scenario first .. or is it posssible to have two drivable trains in one scenario ?

It's no possible to have more than one drivable train in a normal scenario. It is possible in a free-roam scenario though, and it is possible to script a free-roam scenario so that all of the trains are AI, but can still be taken over and driven by you.

If you want to do as you hope with the Chasing Yellows scenario, then clone it, and then swap out the driven consist with one of your choice (RWTools will explain how to do this). You could rename it to reflect the changes you made.

gypbrc,
thanks very much for confirming that. I'll install RW-Tools and try that as soon as I've finished my chores,
