It certainly looks and sounds the part, one question why does 31108 not have the ridge for example.

Also doesn't the power handle go the wrong way??

Amongst others,what/why is the reason for some not having it????

Its not that there isn't a ridge, its that the ridge is too prominent.

I think it's two things, (1) the camera angle of both the ingame shots and the photographs (2) the ingame 'Cleanliness' of the applied livieries.

The ridge certainly looks a bit odd in the game shots, so perhaps it could have been tweaked slightly, but if RS.com were working from plans then it's correct to plan, but may have actually been manufactured to a slightly different shape / tolerance. It's been known in the past that the original plans aren't always 100% accurate. :)

The ridge was removed from loco's that underwent refurbishment in the 1980's as the bodywork was replated. AFAIK.

As Pete quite rightly pointed out, the 'ridge' was removed when the locomotives were refurbished in the 1980's. Non refurbished (ie, original) locos had the body side banding (ridge) and fairings around the buffers. Refurbished locos had the fairings and the bandings removed. That is why some locos have them and some don't.

There are also a number of other differences between the unrefurbished and refurbished locos.

Boiler water filler and body side steps plated over, headcode discs removed (on 'skin head' locos) etc etc.

This is an unrefurbished loco.
