The delay was noted to be due to steam for the doncaster works last week, so in most likely case it is the same. Steam has a busy schedule of releases up to x-mas and DLC isn't on a particularly high priority over large game releases so delays are happening.

Yes, I'm sure you are quite correct young man, HOWEVER, it beggars the question, that if Rail Simulator is a customer of Steam/Valve and paying them good money for them to distribute their products online, then they bloody well ought to be a priority, something that has been mentioned several times before on this forum over the last 12 months, or so.....

It's about time that Paul Jackson cracked the whip on this issue, or, tell them to get lost when the contract expires next year.

I read with interest the possible reasons for release dates not being met, however, correct me if I'm wrong, I have not seen any notices from RW to the buying public regarding any of the delays, such notices could have been in the form of an apology, or even a reason for the delay.

A DLC release for a fairly low-level followed game like Railworks is inevitably going to be less of a priority (and generate less revenue) for Steam than the likes of the new Medal of Honour or Call of Duty releases

As things stand a delay of 3 days over the originally indicated December 10th release is hardly an issue that requires much whip-cracking, and in any case I rather think the relationship in terms of exposure and user convenience is far too valuable to RSC for them to pull the product.

But why the silence, they must keep the the people who are laying out money for this sim informed as to the reasons for the delay, this might help to keep people like me quite.

Hi,

Having read the posts above it seems that one or two are a little impatient.

I am just as eager to get my hands on the 31 but accept that somtimes all
software makers run over deadlines and release things late.
Maybe its just the fact we have been used to the Items being released on the
advertised day, aren't we the lucky ones. :D
I would rather buy a product that is fully working from day one, and not one
that has glitches up to the point of it causing the game to crash.
Most producers don't let the world know that they're running behind.

Rsc do a great job in bringing these addons to us, so let's give them some
slack and just let them release a quality product that we can have fun with
rather than temper that it's gone wrong.

I will now step down from my soap box, and hope the 31 is released very soon.

Cheers

Steve.

I hope none of you moaning about a 3 day delay for a piece of DLC are waiting for Gran Turismo 5 to be released!

Relax guys, the approach by RS.com is vastly different to major software releases. If a major release is made on time it generally indicates that it was compete a while ago and they've been sitting on it. It's comments like this one ...
byker43 wrote:Regarding the 31 delay, I think that sometimes the people like myself who look forward to purchasing new stock on a given day, are not being very well informed about delays, they take our money but muck us about. I purchased Doncaster Works, but only after having to wait until it was released a day late. We dont seam to hear any apoligies or explination for the delays, this cannot be good P.R.
... that cause software developers to take the approach of sitting on a completed product until an announced launch date instead of releasing it immediately. Getting all uppity about minor delays and saying time-of-the-month things like "they take our money but muck us about" is a very good way to ensure future DLC is released without notice of what is coming or projected release dates get wider and wider safety margins instead of becoming available on completion.

With the last few releases we have been taken right up to the proposed release date, and then at the last minute its change, and without any prior notice, I still say this is not good enough, and all I ask is, talk to us and let us know why.

I don't think anyone is genuinely making a big fuss, the opening post was a half tongue-in-cheek, half genuinely gutted! It's always disappointing when you are geared up for something only to find it slip away. If you can't come on UKTS and have a bit of a whinge about it amongst like-minded folk then what can you do??!!

For some of us funds are tight and for me personally all the elements were coming together last Friday. I had the money, the 31 was due for release and most importantly I had the moral edge over Mrs. Jimmy who had spent a small fortune on her hair the day before! Next Monday I won't have any money, it will be danger-close to Xmas, Mrs Jimmy will skin me alive if I spend money that close to the big day! and so the 31 might as well come out in February now, opportunity missed.

I can fully understand your situation Jimmy, regarding having finance ready etc.

However, RSC have no obligation to tell anyone when something is due or why it is delayed, it arrives when it arrives. This is still a recurring theme whereby some seem to believe that because they buy DLC from RSC, they are "investors" in the company and have a right to tell them what to do, when to do and how to do it! I spend a bloody fortune on Kronenbourg every year, much more than DLC but that doesn't make me an "investor" and doesn't give me any right to tell the brewery how they should conduct business!

That isn't aimed at anyone in particular of course, its just the attitude that seems to be prevalent at times on the forum.

Like most things in the world of stuff, getting something on time or even better early, makes for happy clappy campers!!

Likewise in most situations, getting something late really p£%$$ people off, even if it doesn't really matter!

The same is true of waiting for a class 31 as it is waiting for a pizza to be delivered. If you phone the pizza place and they say it will be with you in 30 mins, if there's no sign of it after an hour you are going to be hopping mad and on the phone to them, even though you know you are not going to starve to death if it takes 3 hours!

One of my stand-out memories in Railworks DLC is when IHH suddenly released the Class 50 without any prior warning or tip-off. I nearly choked in my rush to find my wallet and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the headline on UKTS "IHH Class 50 released"!! What a pleasant surprise that was and went some way towards making me change my mind about Sly whom I had previously thought had a questionable customer relations stance.

Let's not forget to bear in mind that the 31 has been a very long time in coming, so another couple of days or even weeks isn't too much of a big deal in the grand scheme of things. :D :D

My Class 31 is geometrically complete now, although it needs texturing and the cab needs building, it's safe to put on the list.
Not long to wait now anyway. :D
