Most important question is what should this mainline link add to the whole package. Answer is simple - there are locos and trains arriving from mainline and some other going to mainline in real life. Leaving and arriving trains/locos are turning depot to the living environment. Shunting operations are only one part of all activities. Currently it's looking just very unrealistic. One shunter working on large yard and no other traffic around. Only animated backround in form of other traffic passing Doncaster station (which one You are not even able to notice in many cases). I think with this addon RW development team once more called attention to the fact that AI in RailWorks needs to be significantly improved. But this is well-known problem I don't want to start to discuss about again.
I've found problematic places where dispatcher can't find right path and I don't know what's the reason. Track rules (direction and type) seem to be okay.
The Doncaster station area is quite well modelled in my opinion so adding mainline link is possible with only little changes in object placement. I hope RSC will listen us.

You are correct here; I mentioned extending the route from a common sense, value for (more) money angle.
FoggyMorning wrote:... or even Doncaster Station
Sorry Foggy, you got this bit wrong mi owd mucker - Doncaster Station was/is mentioned in the product release notes:
http://www.railsimulator.com/productdet ... ?Ref=24095
fair enough, it doesn't say it is 'connected' - but then again it doesn't say it isn't! By inference about the station being included ... yada yada yada :o
(btw, outside this particular part of the thread, at no time has the qaulity of the included 03 been called in to question - we are talking scenery here!)
I stand corrected

I take your point Klaabu; all I can suggest is that people let RSC know that a mainline link is desirable and hopefully they will update the route for people

Cheers

Wonder if that scrapped Class 26 in the background is based on the DT one?

I wasn't aware of DT doing a Class 26. DT have done a Class 25 & IHH have shown a Class 26 & have a Class 27 'Coming Soon'.

Ah yes, of course DT did a 25 not a 26. Given that there are two other scrapped locos shown based on IHH products (Class 07 and Class 20) I'll guess that the scrapped 26 is based on the (upcoming) IHH one as well then.

I was lucky enough to drive a real 04 just a couple of weeks back and enjoyed it hugely, so when Doncaster and its basically almost identical 03 was released I bought it right away. I think it's about as close to the real thing as you could expect. The clunking, grinding and squeeling around corners, the pneumatic hissing when braking and gear shifting, and the clunking when using control levers were all absolutely spot on, as are the engine sounds.

Gear shifting in the real thing is a bit more tricky than in the model; you have to wait for the engine revolutions to go right down, otherwise the next gear up would come in with a huge and I imagine potentially mechanically damaging thump. Gears up come in with a thump even when engine revolutions have subsided (like automatic car gears used to, but bigger) - I think the 'gear in' thump is the only sound effect that's missing.

This is the first time that I've driven a sim loco that I've actually experienced in real life. Seriously impressive. Well done the creators. I love it.

i like :)

Looks to me like a 27 but given that a 20 is also present it strongly suggests that Sly has contributed some of his specially bashed-up content to the pack.

It is a 27, the headcode box is a dead giveaway. Though there is an element of the Class 26 in there, with the plated over cab door window. The picture on the IHH website of the forthcoming 27 shows this too. I don't ever remember seeing a 27 with this feature, but I could be wrong on that.

How long have I been building UK shunters?
I built the class 07

http://rwsprojectplatform.blogspot.com/ ... gress.html

Sly handed over the 20/45 and his 26/27 to me to bash up and rust up.

Sorry Derek, I recalled Sly did one of the locos for Project Platforn, somehow I thought it was the Class 07 he did, but when checking a bit more it must've been the steamer of course, that was done by Sly.
