Leaving aside the works, how does the Class 03 measure up? I would find one useful for the Malmesbury Branch, should I ever get round to it.

I think one could build the link the usual way in the editor and give out the updated tracks.bin file. You would still need to buy the addon and without it you'll only get 1s and 0s...
Yes, but then wouldn't "anybody" be able to download nice ready made layout of track to use as they wish without buying the addon? Personally, as others have mentioned, I think it is best left alone and for RSC to deal with if they feel necessary.

I'm not too sure what purpose a "patch" would serve anyway. I think the "best" solution for those who would like to see a link to the mainline is to add it themselves, so you have full discretion about where it joins/what it joins to/how far it goes

I wonder what would of happened if they didn't link to the mainline in reallife the headlines would be "Rail workshop rendered useless by missing link error" lol :D

Not brilliant, I have just whacked some basic textures on it and dumped it on Cresston for the screenshot but you get the idea. :)

i like :)

Not got this yet, but decent scenarios would certainly make me go for it :)

Yeah I'm a bit disappointed with this.

I've been waiting for something Doncaster related for ages, seeing as I live there (here?) and I see it as a very important place to the British Rail Network. So I was happy to hear rumours of Doncaster floating about the net. But this isn't quite what I had in mind, I had expected it would be part of a route and would have preferred that it was set in current times, perhaps like the Leeds Loop add on for MSTS (But obviously a lot better, because Railworks is).

Also, let me get this straight. They haven't connected the Works to the station tracks? What kind of madness is this?

ya, it is quite disappointed when I found out I paid for 5 meals for the addon and turn out the depot track was not linked with the mainline.

Just hope RS.com will see the coment in this page and add the link back in near future (like this week? haha)

Otherwise it would be less fun at all..

Are we allowed to extend the route for personal use only?????? Or does it change with every update?

Hi guys
This is the same problem Darren was discussing only days ago. Were do you start/finish the route. If they dont connect to the station people want that. If they do connect the station people want more mainline for starting multiple services in scenarios. If they add that is it sceneried. If it is why not go to the next station, and on and on.
I think they got it right. Doncaster WORKS.

Well, didnt get the price right then in that case :/

25 quid ish for WCML and Class 86. £15 for a works area and a shunter? How does that weigh up?

I don't think any less work has gone into the 03 just because it's a shunter -the level of detail is at least on a par with the 86 in my opinion. And while the "route" is small it is absolutely rammed with detail, plus you get no fewer than 11 scenarios which is even more than came with the class 57 iirc.

If shunting isn't your "thing" then this won't appeal, and I don't honestly think putting in a connection to the mainline will change that but if you do, then yes, like other Steam addons any update would restore it to it's default condition

So the question arises........why wasnt it connected in the first place?

Not knocking the 03,it is one fabulous loco, looks sounds and handles brilliantly and i aint knocking the route either, but seriously 15 quid is a hell of a lot of money when you dont have much available. The inside of the works is once again brilliant, but still £15 is a lot of money,a lot of work went into WCML too dont forget,it didn't build itself!

For anyone curious what exactly you get for your cash besides just the route and the 03.

You are correct here; I mentioned extending the route from a common sense, value for (more) money angle.

Sorry Foggy, you got this bit wrong mi owd mucker - Doncaster Station was/is mentioned in the product release notes:
http://www.railsimulator.com/productdet ... ?Ref=24095
fair enough, it doesn't say it is 'connected' - but then again it doesn't say it isn't! By inference about the station being included ... yada yada yada :o
(btw, outside this particular part of the thread, at no time has the qaulity of the included 03 been called in to question - we are talking scenery here!)
