I'm quite interested in the Doncaster Works concept, I am after all a first generation diesel fan, but the stated lack of a main-line link has put me off. I envisaged this add-on being about hauling rusty relics from the mainline Doncaster area into the yard but it sounds like it's a shunter add-on. I can't quite get my head around how it includes Doncaster station but the yard area is completely separate? how does that work? is the mainline bit just for eye-candy in the background?

One for the shunter-holics this one I think! Personally shunters don't do it for me so I'll hold off until the release of the beast tomorrow.
I agree young man, I'm sure Derek and his shunterism obsession got the better of him on this......

I would enjoy any scenario, present day electrified, or, old BR blue diesel days, maybe, including the Class 31 that will be here tomorrow. Coupled with utilising Delis, tractors, duffs, choppers, Class 101's, it could go be quite good.....

I'll leave it with the experts.....I'll just get my camera ready... :D

Sounds like a project the the UKTS 'Challenge Routes' next time out - mind you, by the sounds of it, this offering should have been!
I was going to buy this just for Donny Station as I too had desires on some 'trainspotting' scenario - Dam & blast

Still think there's scope for an "Aire Valley 95" (sorry SIAM!) derived route, centred around Knottingley and including Drax and Eggborough power stations, together with a couple of the collieries.

It's something I did toy with doing myself at one stage though if I was to revisit the idea, it wouldn't be before next year due to other project(s).

I'll see if I can dig out the models I had done later, I think I had the footbridge and canopies along with some other bits and bobs but not sure.

Its a shame i can't even take the 03 onto the ecml and around donny, I would have liked to have seen abit more ecml for the price.

Yes just donny station with abit of trackwork either side (i would say about a mile) and works yard but the yard is not connected to the ecml. The 03 is superb plus the assets, hope this helps. :)

That is it. It is a shunters paradise. Not for the 100mph 120 mile journeymen. It is beautifully done and worth it for the assets alone though.

hi, ...

I would personally prefer if the Worker figures and the Class03 would be to buy even a second in extra addon.

I personally just love the dead and trashed stock. Nothing makes me love trains more than seeing them in decay. Rolling stock is takin for granted when it's running everywhere. It's only till it's pulled from service and sitting in a scrap heap do you really appreciate it and say to yourself "man, I wish I could see those running again".

Why? if you're not interested in the "Route" or Shunting, you're still getting the 03, people (workers), new buildings, traverser, and the bits of 'junk'. If it was to be released seperately, I don't see RS.com dropping the price much, so would actually be less value than it currently is for roughly the same amount of money.

I'm not really into the "shunting" side of the railway, however, it is a fantastic add-on. Would have been great if the Mainline did link onto the yard though.

Hi, if I owned the add on & was that worried about the missing link - I would edit the route to fit the link in! To quote that pesky meercat - simples :) I will get it at some point because those loco bits & the 03 will find a home on many routes.

I guess the issue is that it means any third party scenarios created with that extra link would not be able to be shared

I'm not too fussed about it's absence, though I admit it would have been a nice extra feature to be able to have an AI train drop off stock at the mainline sidings and then the player train shunt it into the works. Still, there's an awful lot of track in a small area so it looks like there's plenty to keep me occupied as it is :)

The 03 is smashing, lovely to drive and sounds very nice too. Hopefully before too long someone will reskin it to NSE livery for the IOW too
