Achievements unlocking themselves

Anyone get achievements without actually doing them?
11/22 I was granted the "Well Travelled" achievement which is drive 500km in Career Scenarios
Then today, 11/30 I was granted the "Long Haul" achievement which is drive 1000km in Career scenarios.
Thing is.. I don't play career scenarios, and I heck, I don't drive enough to even remotely come close to covering 500km in the span of 8 days.

I think these achievements unlock themselves in normal scenarios as well as career once, since I too unlocked the drive 500km, and I haven't driven in any career scenarios since the last major update, but I know I've driver the entire length of the TPR more than twice in normal scenarios

hope that helps

It could be that some other account's data is getting mixed up with yours. I definitely do most of my driving in normal scenarios but I'm only getting achievements clocked up for the career mode scenarios as it should be.

I was messing around with a simple figure of eight that I made the other day. After the train had whizzed around a few times I got an achievement message, and that was in a free roam scenario.

Does it not say sytsem career scenarios. I took it to be a typographical error in that it probably should read system or career scenarios cause thats would fit with the reality.

As others have said they seem to relate to any scenario (including free roams) rather than just the stated career scenarios

Yep, I saw the message "progress in achievement" for the driven x kilometer ones on Newcastle - York
modern when driving some of the default stock. So those seem to count just the mileage of any default locos. While the others such as "use the horn" and "emergency brake" only count in CS. So either it is not working as intended or the descriptions are just wrong.
But for me the measured distances seem to be ok by the amount I have driven.

I'm glad that some of the achievements are available to those who don't use career mode. I've managed to get the 5000km target, but have only driven 2 career scenarios since RW2 was released. Testing scenarios definately contributed to that total

Im Not sure what the achievements are meant to do ? show off ? or just make you want to get them ?

Personally I'm not at all bothered. It's just another example of the way RW is moving away from being a sim to being a game.

Yes, "kids" want to show off so these cater to their needs. Developers also add them because these days
gameplay is lacking in a lot of releases, everything is all fancy graphics with zero substance (Unlike the good old 8 bit & 16 bit era

) so the "Acheivements" are a way for a developer to try to get game players to play their games through more than once.
It's sadly a console 'thing' that has transferred over to PC gaming, now I'm not sure exactly whom was first, but Sony have "Trophies" which started with Playstation 2 (I think.. ) and Microsoft have their GFWL live 'Acheivements'. Steam and other developers cottoned onto this idea and the PC version(s) were born (GFWL & Steam).
I won't go out of my way to get them, but if the game has them set too low (I.e easy to achieve) or is actually enjoyable and has replay value (rare, usually "Indie" made games) then I'll play them through till I've got to around 70% of them.
