Steam Chat Hacker Warning

Post by Gavin-D »

Apologies if this has already been posted
Hi everyone,

I was just invited into a steam chat with a person who was called MCR, he went on to send me a link to a steam page which asked for my account name and password. Knowing from times when this has happened to other members, I didn't type in any of my details, I closed the window the steam page was in, blocked to person, and changed my password (to be safe.

If anyone is invited to chat by MCR block him, he is a spammer trying to steal peoples Steam login detail!
I was hit by this by a person under the name of Craig C, i'm am now back up and running under the name of gavin108 (i will be shown as Gavin in your friends list) if you want to add me as a friend, the only problem i have now is getting Rail works working again.

Please be aware of this Spammer

Thanks
Gav

Yep, it's that time of season. Gift giving, eggnog, quality time with the family, and scammers going into overdrive looking to steal your information and money. I wouldn't have even clicked on the link myself.

Everyones scam detector (common sense) should be set to ultra high this time of season.

Your best line of defence is not clicking links from unknown sources. If it smells fishy, assume it's a fish.

One good way to check is always analyse the URL thoroughly, the only legitimate links are under the "xxxx.steampowered.com" url. Scammers may change this slightly by making it .tk or adding extra letters where they shouldn't be. This person also has tried to contact me though my first reaction was to block.

Thanks for warning those who don't know about this.

Steam Support should be able to transfer the stuff over to your new account (they'd also have been able to get you your original account back).

He tried to "Chat" with me last night too, since I don't actively go out of my way to chat with anyone he / she / "it" got declined immedietly..

I may be in a 'group' but I certainly don't want to chat with you stinking lot ( ), I'd prefer to just play my games in peace! :P

Edit: The User was "MCW" not "MCR" as per the first post..

Yeah, but also analysing what is inside the www and .com wrapper is essential, I was sent it by someone telling me not to click it and it had silly numbers and letters in silly places.

but anyway hopefully you'll be able to get your account back Gav.

One and the same thinking mate ha ha! Same goes for faceschmuck, bitter, bobo (This had a different meaning when a toddler), and all the rest of those "social" nasty sites. (Just my opinion you understand)

I am always offline in steam to prevent updates, and I never chat to anyone on steam anyway, so that is one way to avoid the problem. :D

ATTENTION!!
MCW has spoken to us in chat and he is not the genuine hacker, and was hacked by a certain Portuguese person called "alanlfc09".
So fear not! His account is back now.
