Yes, those ten minute waits would be fine for me personally - perfect while working. Even better if the engines are those which are patched so they can be heard some distance off :D

ye, but saying it's not acceptable to people...up to them whether they want to download them or not isn't it? if they don't like it, they just don't use it :).

understood about York, Darren, perfectly valid point that I did not think about

It could be possible though Mark if you did the spotting from the north end of the station. For northbound services, place a scenario marker right near the Doncaster portal and have services stacked up on the avoiding lines and beyond. They can then use that avoiding line, out of sight and then "reverse" into the station to head north from that marker. For loco hauled services this means you would have to initially have them in reverse formation but as they are out of sight at the south end, it makes no difference.

What an interesting topic this has turned out to be.

I have an MSTS activity for Bristol - Cardiff that matches this theme. You are sat in an 03 shunter opposite Bath Road Diesel Depot and watch loads of BR blue stuff go backwards and forwards in and out of the station and the depot. Lasts about an hour and is donationware / UKTS CD heavy (uses the Peak Power CD stock).

Never got round to finishing the last 15 minutes of it though. With the encouragement of this Railworks thread I might go back and finish the job and upload it.

I see got it now :). I suppose have the loop at York included in the RW route (both Modern and Default) helps also?

Darren, yes the north bays were still there into the 80's according to a pic in my Middleton Press book about the Leamside line.

Mark, I would love to do one for York, but as Darren says the track doesn't extend far enough south. I have have never had much success using Portals as entry points. Also the track layout at York is sadly inaccurate compared to the actual layout pre-electrification, so realistic services would be very hard to do. I have also discarded using Northallerton, the line to Yarm is also too short. Thirsk does seem to be a likely candidate.

totally agree, that was my point what works for one might not work for someone else! as you say 'state what you have done on the read me' and it's up to the downloader to proceed

you have got me thinking about a wtt in 1989 somewhere like Taunton, Exeter lots of 50's 47's and HST'S happy days!!!

i'm going to give it a go, one solid action spotting scenario and one real time scenario - that my weekend sorted :drinking:

I'll give it a go, but I'm not making any promises on releasing it. It might have to wait until next week anyway, so the 03 from the Doncaster route & the 31 can be included. Late 70's York needs those two :D

There's quite a bit of potential on this idea, having just been playing on the Wales & Borders map, you've got Newport, Hereton, Netherton, Little Hope, Castleford and Birmingham, that you can utilise.
Would it be possible to start off at one station and then catch a train, becoming the driver, or, as a passenger, and go to another one further up/down the line, or, is that pushing the idea beyond RW capabilities ??

Cheerz. Transport Steve.

I think you could do that. If you create a timetabled scenario without assigning a Player consist. You could then pick the train you wanted to drive to another spot and then let it continue on it's journey while you watch the traffic at the second location.

I do this a lot... I did this one a while back so that I could showcase RW and W&B as well as some of the great stock and reskins.

It's edited a bit, but essentially is as seen.

If the relevant WTT's are available would it (in theory) be possible to design a scenario to cover say 2 hours at Darlington) with the full timetable and then allow the player to select a train to drive? Is this even possible in the RW engine? Or is it a case of you can change a service to AI in the editor but not an AI to player without entering the editor first?

I could see a lot of potential in real WTT's on routes as payware addons allowing a player to select the service they want to drive. A summer WCML timetable with railtours would probably float most RW users' boats!

If the scenario is set up as a "timetabled" scenario then it is possible for the player to click on any train with a driver and follow the instructions for that consist. The downside of this is that anything that has it's final destination as a portal makes the scenario un-completable if you choose that train, and setting up a heavily trafficked scenario where every consist remains in the "world" would be a pretty massive drain on computer resources I think

Hi Rik
Just watched this and found it thoroughly interesting! This is exactly the sort of thing we need - frequency of trains and a good variety of stock as well. The more the merrier in my opinion! Very well done indeed, Rik!
