Torbay Express

I just can't work out where I'm going wrong. I've been trying to drive the Torbay Express in JT's B&E, but keep having pathing problems leaving BTM. After leaving the platform the train runs along a slow line and then comes head to head with a 47 waiting at a red from Portishead.

Looking at mapview you can trace the line all the way to said 47, with no opportunity to change any turnouts on the way.

I've done this loads of times now; same result.

What's staring me in the face that I'm just not seeing?

That's interesting. I have only tried the scenario once, but had exactly the same experience. I put it down to 'user error', and as I've only had very limited time to devote to Railworks over the last few days I haven't investigated further. It would be interesting to know whether any other folk have had the same problem.

I've only tried it once and didn't get that problem.

If you leave before the right away message, the route does not appear to have been set, also make sure you set back far enough to allow loading of passengers.

It sounds like you aren't following the instructions correctly - you should drive out of Barton Hill with the loco and support carriage, and past the carriages in the passing loop siding in the station itself, until you are within the marker area that is detailed on the scenario instructions.

You then reverse on to the carraiges and couple up to them, before moving forward again, ensuring that the train is far enough forward - again, make sure you are fully within the marker and come to a stop, and wait for the next instruction to appear.

You should then be pathed to reverse back in to the platform - ensure you reverse far enough, the steam loco should be back so as the front of the loco is alongside the canopy and not forward of it. This will allow you to open the doors on the train so as the passengers can get on board. Once that stop has completed (it will take some time, depending on if you arrived on time) you will then be given the instruction to proceed and you will now be routed on the correct line, towards Exeter.

I've done everything by the book as far as I can see; moved out of the yard and into BTM, pass the carriages on the middle track, reversed and coupled to them, moved forward and reversed into the platform road (all as per pop-up instructions) and taken on the passengers. I think I may be going wrong on platform position. I've got the whole train within the yellow marker in the F4 HUD, but that leaves the loco positioned on a turn out. I suspect this is where I'm going wrong, and that I'm supposed to be on the station side of the turnout so that it can change, allowing me to leave BTM on the road straight out of the platform - is that right?

Trouble is that when I've tried to reverse far back enough to do that it hasn't let me load passengers. I'll try again, taking note of your advice re the platform canopy

Also, I don't remember a right away instruction - I just waited for the red line to finish and disappear in F4: is there a right away pop up?

In case anyone else has the same problem (which I've also had :D ), you have to *very* careful when into BTM platform 6. You need to be far enough forward to allow your passengers to board, while *not* fouling the junction immediately in front of platform. I could just see the signal leaning out of the cab (and up). I reckon there's you have to be within 3-6 feet of the correct location to avoid being on the point and then either derailing on departure or be on the road to the head on collision....

The way I did it was to reverse into platform 6 until it allowed me to pick up passengers (all carriages on platform). Obviously the loco is blocking the points if you do this, so when I was given the go-ahead to proceed to Weston, I reversed first of all, watching 2D map until the points changed and then headed forwards to Weston. There's plenty of time to do this, I found myself arriving several minutes early at each station and I drive with auto fireman.
