Without boring you to much my dad left me a huge collection of O Gauge. These are going auction in march next year. The 2 live steam locos I am going keep. From the funds of the auction I am going to commission some Pullman Coaches.

Below is part of an email that I received asking a few questions.

Hi  John

Condolences on  your dad,  I  miss mine too .
But  I am  sure your  dad  would smile over your thoughts and memories… great things memories.,

Yes  I  do  take commission  work, but  I need  a little  more information.

How  many  different  types of car  are we looking  at ?

Accurate interiors   for  each  type  req ?

Do  you  have any  reference  material  Drawings etc,

Although  stated as freeware  .presumably the  models are required to  be up  to  current payware state of the  art to  give  them a  very  long  shelf  life.

Would  the  models   be limited to  distribution  via  UKTS or  could  they  be available  as freeware  (with suitable  ref  to  your  father and  your self )

Very  nice  thought I might add , I’m sure  your  dad  would approve.

Regards

John

Hi

A truly commendable idea.

There's a coach at the Bucks Railway Centre up the road from here, so if there's any pictures you need I'd be more than happy to pop up there to take a few.

Best of luck

Cheers

Bob

This is the Bluebell Railway's 'Christine'. I had the real pleasure of a superb steam driven evening meal a few weeks ago in the seat just under the decorated panel. This is an experience that would please any Railway enthusiast.

The concept of commissioning models for RailWorks and then giving them away as freeware is interesting. Most artists keep some sort of rights to their paintings so the person commissioning the work cannot just take them and do what they want so you need to check this out in respect to models created this way, but if it were possible to obtain all the rights to the models then I would be interested in considering putting some money towards this project. My only proviso would be that the models must be made available to anyone subject to some usual conditions about re-selling, etc.

Donations towards models to be made available as freeware eventually sounds like a good idea.

Thank you so much it has taken a long time to come to this discussion and because my dad was never selfish and person so I wanted to the models to be freeware. It was also very hard to choose what to model to build.

There is nothing set in stone as the models still have to be sold. But its nice to get your feed back

This is a nice gesture, and something to be commended - I thought I'd just add my two-penneth into the "commercial" discussion.

If I've understood correctly, you're not looking for commercial gain from this endeavour, however, have you considered something along the lines of "donation-ware" - maybe you (or your Dad) have a favourite worthy cause, such as a preserved railway, or a charity of some sort - how about allowing people to donate to whatever that cause is for whatever amount they feel is appropriate. That way, I can only see win-win.

But whatever you decide, good luck, and make sure you get more than one quote for the building of these!
