The braking is notched, it should only be tapped for each notch. The vast majority have been asking for this.
I noticed this, I try to use the brake guage to tell how much I've applied the brake and it always seems to be too much.
However I just retried a scenario 'tapping' the brakes on, and that helps at high fps like 70, so long as you don't tap too fast, but a drop in frame rate under 20 normally means you think you have applied it more than you actually have.

Ah, I get you.

A couple of observations:

The brakes seem poor in comparison to other units.
Changing the destination blind is far too slow.
Windscreen wiper is incorrect in cab view at the non-original cab end. (outside view is correct).
It's a shame the passengers are not of higher quality too.

Otherwise a nice little unit, but room for improvement.

The brakes do indeed take a little getting used to, but after a few missed stops I got the hang of them and was stopping on the platform each time by the end of the first scenario.

The problem with the windscreen wiper as seen from inside the "other" cab is that at this time the program does not allow for having two different cabviews on a single double-ended loco/unit, not anything JT could do about that.

I sent the brake modifications I published here off to JT, along with some other stuff - pacerpilot ( who drives these things every day ) seems to think they're ok, so that's good enough for me at least.

I think you could probably adjust the blind speed by tweaking the control sensitivity in the blueprint, I'll give it a go later.

Im afraid i got to agree with Varney the brakes aren't what they could be (Im not defeatist though i have given them a go), is there actually a way that the blind could be sped up does seem a tad slow.

I dont dislike the unit i just think its got a few rough corners that need smoothing up a bit.

Change "gBlindSpeed" in the simulation script; it's currently at 0.0005, so don't raise it by too much; 0.001 will double the speed.

Kariban - Thanks for posting those adjustments. They have really improved the 153 for me. I was a bit nervous as I've only edited one Railworks file before to change a viewpoint but, having made a back up, I gave it a go using RW Tools. I assume that in the "Sim" file it is a question of editing existing values whereas for the "engine script" this was new code and had to be pasted in? Anyway that's what I did. Not sure if I pasted in the right place in the engine script or if it matters. Perhaps you could clarify?

My opinion only - but before the changes I really liked the 153 but it felt a bit insubstantial and skittish. After the changes it feels much more solid and weighty and I love driving it now - and don't shoot through the stations :D . Unfortunately I haven't driven one so, like you, I agree
pacerpilot ( who drives these things every day) seems to think they're ok, so that's good enough for me at least.

Ah, no the engine script part was an existing section that needed to be replaced in the engine simulation script, the one that's in the same folder as the simulation blueprint ( which you got right, yes ): if you search for "Westcode" in the script you'd probably find the section. The brakes will work even if you don't change that part, you just won't get the right pressures in each notch. I should probably have made that a lot clearer, sorry :p

Ah! Thanks found it. Its jt_class_153_simulation.lua right? I've made the changes now and will give it a try this afternoon.

Yes, don't forget to take the bits out of the other script :).

Any chance of posting amended files for those who don't wish to amend files themselves? Something we can just replace defalt files with at own risk?

Many thanks.

Tried it now. Works fine and the brake lever now operates a notch for each push of ; or ' . I use Raildriver. The brake lever on the Raildriver operates the brakes but doesn't "notch" so I programmed the Emergency Brake Toggle on the Raildriver for brakes apply/release and that works accurately so each push on the toggle switch moves the brakes one notch. Thanks again for your help and for posting this Kariban.

I just got the class 153 and after the first drive I came looking for braking mod's. So thanks Kariban the changes you've worked on with Pacerpilot are just what it needed thanks again.
The screaming unit I've only found with other units that cause there rear car to scream or rev up the likes of this unit and oovee's class 156 paired together don't scream.

How do you make an 'MT' (No passenger) version of the 153? The 'usual' passenger setings don't seem to be present like other multiples.
Using RW_Tools I have given the driver a brake but the passengers are sat shivering in the depot!!
