SD70ACe out now

Post by ianb1234674 »

I would just like to say the SD70ACe is out now and would like to Know to which is the more powerful of these three diesels ,the Dash9, EMD ES44-AC or the SD70ACe?
I've got the Dash-9 but the manual does not say how much horse power she has. Not sure whether to get the 170 dmu or the SD70ACe. If the the SD70 is the most powerful I will get that.
Thanks in advance and please also :)

Wikipedia is your friend!

EMD SD70ACe - 4,300hp/3,210kW
GE Dash 9-44CW - 4,400hp/3,280kW
GE ES44AC - 4,400hp/3,280kW

The Dash 9 and ES locos are about the same in rated power output, but the effective power at rail would be higher for the SD70ACe than the Dash 9 because the Dash 9 uses DC traction motors instead of the high-tech Siemens AC traction motors. In RW the modelling quality would be higher for the EMD SD70ACe and GE Dash 9-44CW because they are newer DLC packs compared to the original Kuju GE ES44AC that came with RS.

I'm not an expert (or even particulaly a fan) of modern day US traction, preferring Alco's, U-Boats or F7's...but a quick look around the net gives the following results...

SD70 rated at 4300hp.
Dash 9 and the ES44 rated at 4400hp.

I guess the exact rating may vary with the specification from model to model according to a railroad's particular needs.

Certainly more powerful (and impressive) than a Class 170!

Not horsepower you need ... it's tractive effort and adhesion .. these are close , though there's one guy that posts sometimes that can give you good info , where are you djt :)

The SD70ACe is still really good though. I enjoy it a lot. The default ES44AC stinks compared to it in my opinion.

Agreed .. and my opinion , based only on the few screens posted thus far , the ACe looks to be a far better model ... much would depend on the OPs interests .

Well I was gonna wait till next month but couldn't beat temptation so I got the SD70ACe and it is really good the sound is supberb. Not sure about the digital readouts though but still good. I'd say it is more better modeled than the ES44-ac. I gave it a run from lakspur to Castle rock and it felt quite realistic. I say 4/5.
