The specs for my pc are the same as what I purchased in it over a year ago and even then, it wasn't a pc to set the world alight, (just good enough to run iRacing and the original installation of Rail Simulator).
well pretty much yea it has been rufurbished or something to these specs stated so im guessing that this isnt a good enough comp? and im best to just keep saving?

thanks

Unless you're getting it for less than £150, I personally wouldn't buy it. I can't be sure what it will be like in relation to Railworks, (heck, I don't know how my own pc will cope, lol,) but even if it does ok now, I'm guessing that in 12 months you'll be spending out to upgrade at least one piece of hardware, if not back in the exact same position.
I'm budgeting for an upgrade of a few components in my desktop for next year, just to keep the spec relatively "current".

Yeah, keep saving.....

When you start thining about upgrading a PC, you first have to ask yourself 2 questions:

1) What do I want to spend?
2) What can I actually spend?

....basically I'm asking what your budget is.

What are the specs of your current machine?--presumably it'll have a working hard drive/DVD/graphics card etc so you may find you can upgrade the components in that rather than buy a whole new machine.

Are you running RW currently on the PC you have outlined above? or are you planning to buy it for the first time?

I've only got a modest rig, an off-the-shelf Packard Bell 2.4 GHz Core 2 Quad processor, 3 GB RAM, NVidea 9600 GS, Vista 32bit and I can run RW with everything on maximum no problem (with the exception of the new highly detailed WCML route).

I would say the PC you have quoted in your opening post should be man enough for the job, especially as a budget option and with a small investment in some additional RAM you will be more or less at the same spec as me.

Theres a world of difference between a Core2 and a P4, and in the graphics department, the 9600GS beats the X600 by a long way, bandwidth wise anyway.

mstsrock, the 6800 card you have would fit the system you're looking at and would improve things,

and just to whet your appetite, it would fit this...
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... 40&subcat=
which in my opinion would be a better choice in your budget.
OK, you'd have to fit it in your existing case but thats an easy task.

all depends what you want to run, if it is default scenarios the specs you have will be fine, i have-:
3.2GHz duel core processor
2GB RAM (DDR2)
512 MB Graphics card
320 GB Sata HDD

runs everything at full settings no problem out of the box, i have bought a load of payware stock and each come with scenarios to try out each new locomotive and also uses default stock these all work out fine.

but then I have done my own scenario for Paddington - Oxford set in the mid 80`s when there was more than a couple of different loco types working, i use 37,47,50,56,58,59 & 2 HST Intercity & BR and a class 101 unit with static consists place in Yards, Sidings & depots, but railworks just keeps coming up with `something bad happend` looking at logmaster for the errors it tells me it cant read or find various files, which are on my computer it just can not handle this amout of data, if you want run real scanarios with lots of AI traffic and different forms of traction i think you will need a very high spec gaming machine

What's better for RW, an Intel Core 2 Quad at 2.4Ghz (that's what I have but I don't know what it means!) or a single core 3Ghz processor??

Errrr no, that wouldn't be fine at all, a P4 3.2 HT with 1Gb RAM was current about 7 years ago, follow others advice and keep saving. As others have mentioned unless they're paying you to take it off their hands to save space it's a waste of time.

Almost definitely the Core 2 Quad versus an older single core Intel processor. It also depends on what motherboard, RAM, and gfx card is in the machine, the basic Ghz speed isn't a reliable guide to performance across such different processor architectures.

i was running on 1 gb for a long time every one told me my machine was too slow (the processor), but i was given 3 gb more and a radion 1gb graphics card i got a cheap 600w psu and the machine runs even better than it did before, and now see 25-40fps most of the time, except WCML when its down to 20 fps in places. And I am Happy with the Performance.
AMD A8-7650K, 64Bit win 10, 240GB SSD-TS2016,Nvidia GTX 960 2GB, 1TB HD,750W Psu, 19" AOC Monitor.

Hi, I'm running on the following specs, what settings/ fps should I have?:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66 GHz
4GB Ram
64-bit Operating system (WIN 7)
ATI Radeon HD 4350 Graphics Card

I'm running at 800x600 with some pretty basic settings with the 30fps lock on at 30 fps almost constantly (apart from on the WCML) but without TSX.
