Have the brake issues been reported to rs.com via email? Adam and Derek keep telling us to email support as they don't officially log bug reports made on the forums..

I've gone back to RW for a while, so the issue has gone unreported by myself as it's (selfishly) not effecting me..

Well I've noticed that they've changed as mentioned in other threads, but I'm not convinced they're not supposed to be the way they are now, at least from RSC point of view :-?
They do "work" by the way; apply them and the train still stops!

Yes, I have reported them personally - and before the Jubilee/8F DLC fix arrived.

While the brakes do technically still function, there is no longer sufficient control to run most Career Mode scenarios with a HST as the player's train.

The brakes can be controlled with the pointing device - like I remember millions of users asking for in here - or was it on wikileaks?

It's a really neat way of controlling brakes, you simply grab the brake handle with the mouse pointer holding LMB, then position the handle for the right position/brake-force and press RMB to keep it there. Really nice "keyboard interface".

I was comtemplating another question: who can tell if it's a simulation of broken brakes or it's a broken simulation of brakes?

Does it take the price in 10+ years of rail simming? Well, not if the 8F and Jubilee still spin on their front bogies

And you could already do that since RailSimulator, well before the release of the new HUD - it was "REALLY SIMPLE" too, all you had to do was press the right mouse button, move the mouse to move your 'head' to find the "Lifelike" 3D Model and then simply click & hold the left mouse button on the brake lever whilst moving it forwards or backwards. See, you don't need Railworks2 and it's HUD, Railsimulator and Railworks did it just fine..

If you were lazy then simple A,D,; & ' are even better.. Got to love RSI

(Yes, if any English teachers / professors are reading this - I know, you're not supposed to start a sentance with "And" - well I have, so what are you going to do about it? :o  )

P.S - The brakes are broken!

Unfortunately the brakes are just as broken if you shift them with the mouse as they are with keyboard control.

absolutely .! if you implement a new feature..... i.e notched brakes (which is great that they've done this) at least actually test them properly before releasing the update!!

Probably just updated references to some more DLC in the Drive By Train menu.

I worked hard on that post to keep it within CoC, no easy task I might add, so it might have slipped. Anyway, I was able to complete the CS-scenario - so I to am no longer unhappy. :D

Using the mouse with the HUD (F4) is only a work around and not a fix I don't use the Hud simply cos nether do any of the drivers on our network. So I use what I can witch is my keyboard

There are many of use whom prefer the "original" way of working using the old F3 display so the handle on the new HUD is NOT an option, as 'wolly1380' has said (and I quoted) it's not a fix!.

I'm not sure but Raildriver users will find the brakes an issue as it 'simulates' a keyboard via its levers (as I understand it) and the simple fact that with the HUD you can only operate one lever at a time. With a keyboard / 'Raildriver' you can do more than one thing at a time, in particular applying loco brakes and train brakes / dynamic brakes at the same time if needed.* It's also more of a hassle trying to drive the 'expert' excellent Class 317 / Class 86 freeware and the Class 86 payware via the HUD vs traditional keyboard.

Edit:* For example when I'm using a Loco hauled consist, I break for the stations using the "Train Brakes", once the speed gets low enough I start releasing the "Train Brakes" but start applying the "Loco" brakes - impossible to do smoothly with the new HUD, but simple with the keyboard!
