Spent a while last night trying to work why I could see scenarios in "Look by Route" but not "Look by Train".
Eventually realised after looking at the xml files that its a multi factor issue so I am posting this as a seperate thread because I am not sure if its just me or its common.
To solve the problem.
1. Go into "Look by Route" and get the scenario name.
2. Goto editor and edit scenario
3. When the scenario starts in edit click on the marker and in the slide in box on the right check the bottom box with the engine picture.
4. If it says "ANY" the scenario will not show in the "look by train" so change it to something that reflects the start up engine be it steam or desiel etc
5. Save the scenario
6. Find the start up loco and make sure that it is selected as "User" by ticking the right hand side slide in box. You access this by clicking on the loco not the driver icon.
7. Save
et voila it now appears in "Look by Train"
So far as I can see the excellent RWTools can't do this for you (yet ?) so it does need to be done manually. Once you get the hang of it you can get quite quick - I did loads last night.
So far as I can see it has no ill effects - it even works on the fabulous 9F "Summer Saturday" scenario for the Bath Route. Love the new interface and features etc. Particularly as I can remove the engine name from scenarios now using the excellent edit function.

Will this be 'corrected' by Steam at the next update?

No idea as I don't work for them
I suspect that a talented person could prob work out a bit of software or even how to include it in RWTools. Its a big ask but I suspect that might be the best short term fix to automate it.
However it is genuinely not a lot of work once you get into the flow, except that I got distrated and ended up playing scenarios rather than editing them .....

Not necessarily I believe, that is what Adam was referring to on twitter when he said the steam DLC had to be updated so that it would appear. Now for 3rd party content we can do it ourselves or wait for the author to do it.Acorncomputer wrote:Will this be 'corrected' by Steam at the next update?
Awhile ago ( at the previous update ) there were questions re the new fields in the scenario markers panel and now we can see what it is used for ie. to populate the drive by train screen.

Re: Railworks 2: Seeing Scenario in By Train Mode
Just to fill in some detail here.
Looking at the scenario.bin files what seems to happen is that changing the "ANY" to a loco type in the first section adds a new section to the scenario.bin.
This section is where RW2 interface picks up the loco name. However at this stage the space is unpopulated.
By then selecting a loco as "Userdriven" or what ever the option is that populated that section with the name of the loco read from some part of the loco's own file.
Now interesting to speculate - once written - can we change the contents of the RW2 locos listed by changeing this entry ? Unfortunately not near my RW machine to test it

Re: Railworks 2: Seeing Scenario in By Train Mode
a bit more info now.
After a steam update and DLC content reload my modified scenarios reverted back to ones without a "Drive by Loco" option.
To get over this what I have done is to clone and rename the route. Cloned routes have a new "9FgRT_adjhghjbddbjg" type name thingy in the contents/routes directory so when you get a steam update they are not overwritten. This means that my changes are now stable and all I have to do is to keep deleteing scenarios from steam.
So far as I can see the instructions seem to be v stabel.
