RailWorks 2 - the Features Thread

Post by Kromaatikse »

Since the Threadnaught has been locked, I wonder if we could have some official word on what features and fixes will be in RW2. Try not to get this one locked, hey?

Things that are mentioned in the video already:
- New user interface (menus and driver controls). The old train control methods are still there for experts.
- Upgrade method for current users: just log into Steam as usual.
- Flying Scotsman - but is this DLC or for the core?

Things not stated officially for this release, but have been mentioned at some point:
- Bugfixes for existing routes, eg. speed limit glitches and bad signals.
- Performance improvements, reduced memory usage (based on the extremely jerky sequence at the end of the video, these are NOT there yet)
- AI glitches (crawling, collisions)

Things that RSC hasn't ever talked about but users have:
- Physics model upgrades
- Headlights
- Sound and Graphics at a distance
- AI capabilities (coupling, shunting)
- AI physics equivalent to player physics (AI trains usually outperform player currently, sometimes spectacularly)
- Dispatcher intelligence (routing trains on fast mainline, not through goods loops; more reliable passing and following; less recalculation time with each new instruction)
- Updating the original Kuju stock to current DLC standards

Derek? Anyone?

100% DLC - not mentioned anywhere, but considering the time spent building it and getting the "License" to build it, it certainly won't be a 'freebie'.

I believe I have also seen mentioned on 'official' channels:

- New career mode scenarios
- More types of scriptable events during scenarios
- Steam achievements

Rain on windows so the wipers have a purpose, and station "atmospheric" sounds.

From Facebook
Paul Jackson railworks 2 Has the improvement lighting effects and the light shade effect?

Hi Chiw, there are enhancements across the platform. But the focus of RW2 is as we have described. We are expecting to make a major announcement about our next steps in about four weeks. But I have nothing further to announce at this time.
Paul
So looks like they have something elese coming up.

I think it's better to call them as bugfix instead of upgrade, since it's fully bugged and not just "dumb" :)
Kromaatikse wrote:- Headlights
this is solvable now (addtexdiff shaders) but yes it would be better if we got a better implementation
Kromaatikse wrote:- AI physics equivalent to player physics (AI trains usually outperform player currently, sometimes spectacularly)
there is a percentage value in scenario editor, what controls this. Setting it to 60%, the ai behaves like a real train, just sometimes the editors forget about it.

I think the "new" features will be only:
-new gui
- new name
-achievments
And no more. Like a very minor patch.
My top wishes: Realistic engine physics - Superelevation - Multi-core support - Remove Physix engine, and use better one
