I Like the way that you can mess with the default stuff knowing if it goes pear shaped it can be restored with verify cache - encourages experimentation. :)

I personally love the user-freindlyness of RW.

One thing I never understood with MSTS was how to make a route. RW has clear instructions and alot of developer support into this matter. Heck, look at some of the challenge routes. Made in days or even weeks, and they all look and work fabulously!

There also seems to be alot of people willing to help us inexperienced lot with problems on here :D or at least, point us in the right direction or give encouragement.

Also, I love the fact that the default equipment is bloody epic! I mean, a S&DJR 7F and a Black 5 for defaults? As far as I knew, black 5's for MSTS came with addons, and the 7F's only recently came out for MSTS. Plus, deltics, spoons, HST's and tractors! heaven. Even the default routes are appealing to all loyal railfans :D

Really, I can;t personally see anything i really don't like about Railworks, apart from possibly that you fork out £20 for the game, then a further £20 for the IOW to make other free routes work. :-? ... worth it, though :P

Excellent simulator, roll on no. 2.

Dark.

I think the graphics and many of the simulation aspects are fantastic. I also really liked the default routes and stock as a base product. I also think that it has the capability of simulating more realistic driving than MSTS ever did.

I like the fact that I can make a copy of a default route and extend it and alter the speed limits, signalling and track to match what was really there for the time period. I happily passed 5 or so hours today altering speed limits on my clone of Newcastle - York. All now present & correct, as per the 1979 Sectional Appendix. I also enjoy making scenarios with Railworks. I found it very difficult to create activities with MSTS, but the RW Editor is pretty straightforward, even more so since the introduction of the Timetable View.

What I love about Railworks is the opportunity it gives me to do some of the things I like most in the world, travel around Britain (Scotland in particular) and look at/drive trains for the fraction of the price. I have family in Scotland, and I am thankful that I get to travel up there once a year, if I spend 10 days there, I always dedicate one/two days of the ten to go look at the trains at Edinburgh or Glasgow or Rutherglen or Prestonpans. However one day a year does not satisfy my love for rail transportation, and RW fills that to an extent, and from someone who lives thousands of miles from the nearest railway, it is something I can never be thankful enough for :D

Shunting!

Love the way you can set the loco path in the 2D map (9 key), then use the free-ranging view to take the shunter's PoV with regard to coupling to each set of wagons. Would love to see a route like West Colton, or Oroville yards (from Feather River) dropped into RW to exploit this - might even convert our US colleagues!

To be able to rebuild things that you only ever saw in history books, into real places that you can see and travel through.
And to prove why the Great Western WAS Great. :D
