Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
they will get my e-mail monday to send patch
Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
Whilst generally a nice model, for £5.99 the apparent lack of sounds is disappointing -- this model deserves a clunky, crashy, creaky, squeaky, squealy soundset as per the prototype.
The provided liveries would benefit also from greater variety; this is one of those models that would really benefit from several versions of the same base a la Oovee's benchmark-setting TEA tanks and MJA 'gondolas', i.e. different weathering patterns and a bit of graffiti to break up the repetition when you've got a train-full.

Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
Apologies for the lack of sound - this must have been something we've overlooked (with other wagons too) so I'll bring this up on Monday and see what we can do. Don't forget that Richard Armstrong has some excellent wagon sounds available, so for anyone with those sounds I'd highly recommend them.
Thanks,
Simon

Yeah but Richards wagon sound pack is only listed in the RailSimulator section of his site, do they also work in Railworks?
Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
Yes, they work in RW, just a little bit more fiddling required.msmith4000 wrote:Yeah but Richards wagon sound pack is only listed in the RailSimulator section of his site, do they also work in Railworks?

Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
Hello, I'd have been interested in the Armstrong wagon sounds, however, I've read somewhere in this forum, in relation to sound problems someone was experiencing, that it was not a good idea to install these into RW....for whatever reason..? I'm fairly sure this was advised against by the author himself in that thread. Nontheless, If they are to be installed into RW....is the tweaking needed simply an install redirection or does it involve editing XML files? Thanks for any thoughts

Think I will wait for JT to patch them first?

No idea why, they've been absolutely fine on my setuphokitika67 wrote: I've read somewhere in this forum, in relation to sound problems someone was experiencing, that it was not a good idea to install these into RW....for whatever reason..? Bit of both, potentially. To get them applied to all the default stock, just install and redirect as required; to get them onto non-default items, e.g. JT's stock, editing is necessary.Nontheless, If they are to be installed into RW....is the tweaking needed simply an install redirection or does it involve editing XML files?

Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
Thanks for the replies.....the only other apprehension I have about the AP Wagon sounds, is due to my experience regarding, for instance, the excellent AP Cl37 and cl47 sounds, which, where I have other nice sound sets in scenarios....(Slys Western Cl52 etc) seem to be subdued or muffled...even absent at times. Ive found that, the only way to get these silent passing locos to sound is if I Cntl + Lt click on the loco, thus losing control of my own engine.......but even then, the sounds return only to a lessened audibility...? The Western diesels are really good and audible......drowning out all else fortunately or unfortunately
.
The AP sounds disappearing may be due to my On-board sound hardware....or is it that RW can't cope with too many loco/ wagon sound sets....? If it is hardware related...I've never had a sound card so can't make a comparison..? So, if the AP Wagon sound set were to be subdued also, that would deter me. Is it possible to have all these sounds audible as they should be? I hope I haven't gone too far from the subject of the thread and that this may be useful to others..? Thanks again.

Ta Rick, found the instructions on how to install the RS sounds into Railworks on Richards web site, sound pack bought. Instructions on how to alias the sounds to other wagons are also included in the pack.
So this pack only changes the sounds on freight wagons supplied as part of the railworks core? Does anyone know offhand if the RailSimulator UK Wagon Pack 1 uses the default wagon sounds that comes with the Railworks core, and if so does that mean I wont need to alias them as per the supplied instructions since the core sounds have been upgraded hence the UK Wagon Pack 1 will use the new sounds? (Sorry bout all the questions still a bit of a noob when it comes to Railworks) If no one knows I'll setup a free roam and do some testing but if anyone has the UK Wagon Pack 1 aleady and can answer this question this would save me some time testing.
Thanks to all . . .
@hokitika I get this too with Railworks, some of the loco sounds disappear, also sounds can "stick on" ie looping bell or sticking horns, they are still playing when you exit to the railworks main menu. Think the sound system in Railworks has a few bugs but it could be as you say a memory thing or combination of. I think the Armstrong sound packs will definatley use more memory than default sounds. Eitherway I think plenty of others experience this type of problem as seen on other threads. I dont think increasing your RAM helps in the matter as railworks will only use so much then stop (does anyone with 6GB or 12 GB have any sound issues?) but I have 4GB RAM and it does not happen very often to me and I have most of the Armstrong packs installed. The fact that you get sound looping and sounds continuing to play even when you exit the simulator to the menu points to some minor bugs with the coding of the Railworks audio engine (in my opinion someone may know better though!) I would'nt deny yourself the improved sounds as they make so much of a difference.
*** Edit *** Scratch my last question as I have opened the UK Wagon Pack bin file and can see that these wagons use their own sound sets. I need to play around with the wagons and find out which sounds I like best on the deault and decide what I prefer to use before editing the bin files to change the sounds over!

Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
Thanks for your reply, Its helpful....I imagine as you suggest atleast 1 factor maybe the RW engine itself....., but I hadn't before considered the AP sounds utilising more RAM...it does seem reasonable and in my case that does make sense.... as I struggle by with 2GB RAM?

Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
I would definatley recommend that you add and extra 1GB of RAM preferably 2GB to take you to 4 Gb as Railworks will make use of it (even if you are using 32 bit Windows such as Windows XP.)
Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
Hi guys
hokitika67 is wright about the AP wag sounds and railworks . Richard definately said not to run these in railworks, i read that thread too. I think they were causing sbh or crash . Its not very long ago so i would recomend checking with AP reguards this

Don't forget that 32-bit Windows is limited to 3GB, any extra over that does not even get touched.msmith4000 wrote:I would definatley recommend that you add and extra 1GB of RAM preferably 2GB to take you to 4 Gb as Railworks will make use of it (even if you are using 32 bit Windows such as Windows XP.)

Re: Just Trains VGA/VKA Wagon Pack
I'm hoping Richard will create a RW installer for the UK Wagon sounds. It's probably on his to-do list, but it's more than overdue as we could really do with some decent wagon noise!
