WCML De-electrified?
Anyone tried to de-electify the route? I have had a go following the RW tools manual but on this line it's a slow job and after a couple of hours had to start all over again....items not substituting out as normal. (I do this on a clone of the route by the way).

I Mean, that should do it?

Re: WCML De-electrified?
You may notice that the electric infrastructure is of a much greater level of detail than the default Paddington and Siegen routes built by Kuju five years ago. This can't be done automatically so logically removing them would also have to be done with some degree of manual labour.pilot37 wrote:Anyone tried to de-electify the route? Re: WCML De-electrified?
Yes, I think that's what I discovered. Shame, electrification doesn't really fit with steam. Wonder if we could be given the route with this stuff switched off?

Re: WCML De-electrified?
On Facebook, RS Paul did say that a 1950s version of the route would be good, but that it would have to take its turn - he didn't promise anything. Personally I'd prefer the even earlier 1930s version....

Re: WCML De-electrified?
I am working on an update to RW_Tools which will delete all selected shapes from a route with one click, so you should be able to select all power gantries and remove them in one operation (however you still need to know the names of all the gantries)
May take me a week or so though.

Thanks Mike, where would Railworks be without your RW_Tools? Who knows, WCML may even run faster.mikesimpson wrote:I am working on an update to RW_Tools which will delete all selected shapes from a route with one click, so you should be able to select all power gantries and remove them in one operation (however you still need to know the names of all the gantries)

One thing, I get a lot of "Milk Bottles" on the routes I have de-electified. Am I doing something wrong?

Milk Bottles denote a missing (removed), but non-critical, object.pilot37 wrote:One thing, I get a lot of "Milk Bottles" on the routes I have de-electified. Am I doing something wrong?
Have a read of this; sounds relevant.

Re: WCML De-electrified?
Thanks Rik, I have just read that with interest, the milk bottles dont cause a crash, they just look a bit odd on occasion.Wikkus wrote:Milk Bottles denote a missing (removed), but non-critical, object.pilot37 wrote:One thing, I get a lot of "Milk Bottles" on the routes I have de-electified. Re: WCML De-electrified?
Well, good luck with the de-electrifying though, once the process is completed, you will have some signals in mid-air too I fear. I hope not too many!

Re: WCML De-electrified?
OK, new version of RW_Tools will be up later today. I have added new option as follows:-
1. Run the Check Route option on WCML #2 or whatever you have named your cloned version of WCML
2. You will get a list of missing files (there are 3 missing on my installation - authors please note).
3. Click Exit and you will be asked if you wish to see a list of all Shapes used, click OK
4. Select all objects listed in the folder Assets\keithmross\WCMLNorth\RailNetwork\OLE
5. Click the Remove Selected Objects button and this will remove them all, takes a few minutes.
Once you have done this, open the route's Tracks.bin file and search for <ElectrificationBlueprintID>, select the whole block down to </ElectrificationBlueprintID>, including the tabs at the beginning of the lines, so that the whole block appears in black. Copy it with CTRL-C and paste into the top box of the Search and Replace box. Leave the bottom box empty.
Click Find
Click Delete
Click Find Next
Click Delete All
The program will go through and delete all the overhead wires etc.
Save the tracks.bin file
Run railworks and it should look like the following -

Re: WCML De-electrified?
Excellent Mike, I just followed your instructions and have a de-electrified route. Seems to put a little less strain on my system too
Slight Clarification to your instructions below in blue for the uninitiated....

Re: WCML De-electrified?
Thanks for the update and I am glad that worked OK. Certainly a lot faster now than doing it all by hand.
Luckily the signal gantries were named differently to the power ones. this does not always happen and you end up with signals floating in the air.
Mike

Hello all. I have been trying to do this but my tracks.bin seems to be encrypted or something? do you have to de-crypt it before finding the relevent text string?
I'm trying to use notepad/wordpad to open the file

Re: WCML De-electrified?
Andrew,
Many files, including tracks.bin, are compressed. To view or change them you must decompress them first.
I created a simple editor, retextedit, that does this for you. see www.ivimey.org for a copy.
Be careful, though: tracks.bin is central to a route's consistency.
Good luck!
Ruth

A conservatively-built 1950s one...unless I ditch my scraptop and get a powerful PC.rivimey wrote:On Facebook, RS Paul did say that a 1950s version of the route would be good, but that it would have to take its turn - he didn't promise anything.
