The behaviour you are seeing is normal. It's due to the way the developer chose to model the loco to get round an imperfection in the way RW models some aspects of an electric loco's performance. The freeware version of the Class 86 is the same.

Right, nice one! Thought I was doing something wrong. It's a bit more entertaining now, rather than whacking the throttle up to 100%. good work RW.

+1 me too,i've very recently spend a small fortune on a raildriver only to find yet another loco i can't use it with--very frustrating.
I can understand that frustration, the Raildriver is an expensive piece of kit. However, RSC have always stated that it isn't officially supported so its a case of you spend your money and take a chance.
:D too true & i'm beggining to wish i had saved my money but hey ho easy come ............
Love this route and this loco but having to use RD and KB together explains my low ranking on the Career Mode.

It seems to me that RSC's choice not to support RD is questionable. It's not like there are any other controllers in the marketplace as you will find in the racecar world. I can't reconcile how the RSC team can be enthusiastist about their product when they are obviously developing it without a properly cued input device.

I wouldn't part with my RD for anything. Still hoping that it gets fixed, as promised, for the Class 57 soon.

Having seen the posts last night about the 86 and RTFM I read it and set off. Straight away I hit the 7 mph problem re-read the manual sat looked confused then the light bulb inside my head went on and hey this is fun to drive. It's nice to have a different driving perspective although I've only toucehd a small part of the whole DLC this morning it looks very impressive so far from the loco to the scenery. Only criticism I would have is the lack of passenger view.

Great job :)

Just a quick note on my initial issue with driving the loco;

I understand the tap up and tap down, but occaisioanlly I would press D for too long when running and the tap changer would go to the off position. When this happens the tap indicator would start to fall, so I then pressed A to move the tap changer to the hold position (i.e. before the tap indicator falls to zero). I then didnt understand why tapping A has no effect and the loco speed falls off.
Once I realised that I had to wait until the tap indicator falls to zero before re-setting the tap changer to the hold position and then re-applying the A tapping, all works fine.

Hope this might help someone else,

One issue I have is that very occasionally when notching down the controller will bounce back to the run up position instead of hold. This is without touching the A key at all. Is anyone else having this issue?

hi ...

Next Question ..
Someone knows for Taste, the "B" button causes the Class86 CAB.
I only hear a beep and a click as if by a switch.
PDF file there is nothing about it.

@holzroller: I have the same problem. I noth down with D and sometimes the lever jumps to Run Up.

@ice: I think B is without a function at the moment.

Hi,

I can understand why some people are having issues driving the 86. However, it's really quite straightforward. It is unlike any previous RW locomotive (except the previously released freeware 86). Once you understand that the power lever is more like a gear stick in a manual gearbox car, you've cracked it. Press 'A' to bring the power lever to the centre 'Hold' position. TAP (not press, TAP) 'A' to enter the first notch. Keep tapping 'A' to move through the notches and the train will accelerate. Make sure that you observe the ammeters closely though. These are the two vertical gauges with the green/yellow/red sectors. Keep the needles on the border of green and yellow for maximum effect. My max speed so far is 102mph on the run down from Beattock summit. 78mph on the way up. To take off the power, PRESS 'D' and this will move the power lever to the off position and run down through the notches to zero. I've found this to be a far more rewarding experience than driving a diesel or steam loco.
