Quick everyone, gather your torches, GET HIM! :evilbat:

*Ahem*, I must agree I was a bit miffed at the thread being locked.. Sometimes it might seem that a discussion is treading "old ground" or going nowhere, but sometimes someone will come along with a curveball and actually get us thinking about gripes in a totally different way, which in itself could lead to less arguments / old threads being rehashed.

I started a thread on Locked Threads under site admin way back on 7th August.

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 6&t=108178

Only one person made comments. Why now are so many waxing eloquently, and far too eloquently, about precisely this same theme? Furthermore is this not a site admin issue rather than a Railworks debate. Has Railworks a new bug, causing threads to be locked inappropriately? If not then I can't see how this issue claims to be a General Railworks discussion topic. While, broadly speaking, I agree (and that was the point of my initial thread ) that threads are locked rather too easily, I must say I sighed with relief when the thread 'just bought my first payware addon' was locked. How many times is it necessary to make the same point and what is the virtue of circular arguments?

That'll cost 150 in resources to upgrade your wildmen with torches.

I think very few people visit that forum on a regular basis, so you cannot expect too much comment from general users.

I agree that the site admin forum would be the better place, but then again, Vern stated that he thinks that other forums are not read that much, and he surely is right. But Matt created the site admin forum exactly to get traffic off the main forums.

I also agree that the admin forum is not read so much. As I said, there are two things, calmed-down, long-term discussion (sometimes too calmed down, as Mark commented, I agree with that, too) -- and quick discussion of currently hot topics.

Maybe moving the thread to the admin forum now that it caught attention would be an option. Although we should not develop that into a regular practice.

The AI traffic is perfect, nothing to see here, move along

Post by sniper297 »

I was a little puzzled by the thread itself, I've been told many times there's nothing wrong with the AI traffic, I just wasn't using it the right way. Phil Skene started a similar thread recently;

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 4&t=108125

Consensus of opinion there seemed to be the same, no problem here, just a tiny minority of screwballs who want it to be at least as versatile as the other two trainsims.

"it was more a case of people venting at the shortcomings of RW than constructively seeking ways to make the AI and signalling respond more fluidly to user demands"

Exactly HOW? I sought that for 2 1/2 years, was told over and over that I don't need it, and recently I got the straight dope that it is what it is;

http://forums.trainsim.com/vbts/showthr ... ost1614096

They don't intend to fix it because they don't consider it to be broken, therefore there's no point in any discussion on it. If it ain't "further enhanced" enough for you, why don't you just delete it from your hard disk and buy Trainz? That's what I did, the only reason to point out flaws in any game is the hope of getting those flaws fixed, when there's no hope there's no point in talking about it because it will be considered "bashing".

I think the only issue is poor communication with customers.

We actually had a good improvement with the scenario tools. For now that helps me manipulate round any issues. Not ideal but a nice development which I might say, suggests they are keen to do what is feasible, over time.

But back to the original thread..........

Do we have freedom to give both positive and negative feedback on here?

Yes - so long as it's constructive and within forum guidelines.

I did debate (with myself :o :o ) putting my initial post in the Admin Section but Andi hits the nail on the head as I felt the issue was RW or at least RW forum specific.

Firstly, I'm not posting in the capacity of a moderator....but as a member of UKTrainsim.

There has been something posted that...to me..sums up the whole situation regarding the standard of posting on the forum, and virtually nobody picked up on it:
RSDerek wrote:How something is said is just as important as what is said.

Be nice to one another and all should be good.

I've never seen a thread where folks are encouraging/supportive and non aggressive to one another ever get locked.
The sad thing is that there are too many who aren't able to put their hand up and say "I subscribe to that!". Which make a moderator's job as enjoyable as having teeth pulled without an anastethic....which is why you don't see me around much. The anti-moderator feeling has become too much for my health and sanity.

I don't think its worth saying any more....

Good evening everyone
I have been following this thread with interest
Picking up on Dougs point the moderation team do have a difficult job to do I agree
Sometimes though I have wondered about the independence of UKTS post Railworks?
I have always posted here in a constructive way and not flamed anyone
I don't expect everyone to agree with my posts sometimes it is best to agree to disagree
It may be helpful to know why a thread has been locked rather than just locked without explanation
This at least would go some way to avoid conspiracy theories
Kind regards Stephen
