for example, how can you experiment that there is a SetEmitterRate/SetEmitterActive script command in rw, if there isn't any indication to this and no addon used it for a long time?
You can't. You can only experiment a thing what you know that exists.
Of course after a payware maker used these secrets in and addon that it's easy to "reverse engineer", so it isn't a secret anymore, but the point is, there is a knowledge source that the free user can't see :)
Sometimes it really seems that rw have a lot of features, but the people just don't know they are exist.

We urgently need this secret society then.
RSC guys get cookies, we get beer.
They tell us all they know about RW and we tell them all we feel about it.
Wait -- something makes me think that they might not come ...

Secret function calls or no. I guess there is enough to bring together in such a knowledge base and using that will get us much further. By then, the first payware with the brand new secret function calls will arrive and we will promptly add the calls into our knowledge base. Actually, all I learnt was from "reverse engineering" -- looking at the default script, how they work, and how they do not. You make a theory, you try it out, you make a new theory. Of course, I was hoping for such function calls for the emitter. Had I the time, I would try 10 or 20 calls. Just look at the XML file of an emitter and try some SetEmitterXYZ and see what happens. Btw., Bill Hobbs posted something about that long ago at the US forum, and I don't count him with payware creators (or did I miss something?).

Sorry for the slow updates.

Finally had a little bit of free time to spend an hour or so see what can be done in drupal. It looks very promising and I think it would certainly be able to be the core behind ausable knowledge base.

Couple of issues now:
What with the Trans Pennine Route, RWDecal twins, work etc my free time is limited. I am willing to have a go setting all of this up (with matt's help) but I may need some assistance. Is there anybody out there with Drupal experiance?

Once it is set up we need to start getting info. on there. In the early stages this needs to be slow and careful whilst we finalise the structure etc. I think we need a few volunteers to help manage it.

Finally I need matt to install it on UKTS :)

Happy to go ahead and get it set up here now, at least then everything done is in the right place and it's one less thing to worry about.

Thanks Matt,

I am still working out what modules I need etc. Will I have ability to download and install etc. No problem if not but might end up pestering you a lot!!! Also as a little bit of trial and error at the moment it would be good to just play arround with some stuff which would be easier if it were possible form me to have FTP access or something.

Cheers

You can certainly have FTP access, no problem at all - the only thing you wouldn't have is console/desktop access. FTP is assumed however :)

I can see problems with an independent database like this that is not created and maintained in association with RS.com.

I think there will be inevitable differences of opinion over the content of the database/WIKI and RS.com could (quite understandably) get a bit uppity.

Would it not be better to speak to RS.com about a project like this and see if they would work with and endorse (and possibly part fund) UKTS in the maintenance of such a useful source of data.

Ideal thanks Matt. I am pretty sure console access is not needed. Let's hope we get a few volunteers with experiance to help set this up.

I have tried to involve RS. They are certainly aware as RSAdam has commented on this thread. I am not sure if Matt has had any communication from then on the subject (as the idea has been around a lot longer than when I started this thread).

I would be very happy to have a member of the RS Dev team on the content editing team so that they can make changes to anything they know to be incorrect. Any feedback from them on knowledge base errors etc would of course be dealt with as a matter of urgency. It would be even better if they were willing to chip in and provide some financial backing to UKTS for hosting the resource and endorsement would obviously be a benefit.
