Re: IHH Britannia!
OK well I've bought the IHH Britannia. What a fine looking model it is but............
Sorry to say the sounds let it down a bit. After the amazing DT 4MT sounds(recorded from a real 4MT), the Britannia takes a major step back i'm afraid. It just doesn't sound much like a Britannia. I've seen and heard Oliver Cromwell a few times now so I do know. It's clearly a mixture of default and recycled 9F sounds and I'm not happy about paying 11.99 plus vat for that!
The whistle is the only part that resembles a Britannia chime. I feel it's a bit lazy. It turns a great looking model into something a bit lifeless! Thats until I get to work sound tweaking that is!!
Again I stress though that the model itself is excellent!
Regards

I do object to being called lazy having put out something like 12 locomotives in the past 9 months.92212 wrote:OK well I've bought the IHH Britannia. What a fine looking model it is but............

Do you really think you can tell the differnce between a Brit and a 9F ? sorry you are kidding yourself
Just for the record the 9F was recorded from ( amongst others )......70013 Oliver Cromwell so where does that leave your argument ?
You are quite welcome to say you don't like the sounds, some love them some won't .. that is the way of things.
Enjoy the loco's but please be subjective in any critisism.

Re: IHH Britannia!
Would be nice to get some video. I bought the Western and was similarly disappointed on the sound, but I was in a small minority. I want the Britannia but without new and convincing sound, it's a no. Sound is vital to me.92212 wrote:OK well I've bought the IHH Britannia. What a fine looking model it is but............

Already I can see this thread heading towards a cliff edge. Let's all keep things calm and subjective. The safety catch is already off the lock button.

I haven't bought the Britannia yet, I hope it's excellent. Would welcome some video first to hear the sound quality for myself. Anybody got the Evening Star as well as the Britannia...any comparisons? I will probably buy one or the other.

Re: IHH Britannia!
To my extremely non-expert ears the 9F and 7MT sound (unsurprisingly) very similar. The Brit sounds are a little "softer" than the 9 which I would expect as the latter is designed as a heavy duty freight locomotive
As I say though, I'm no expert on sounds and I'll happily take something that sounds "right" to me over something that is strictly accurate to its real world counterpart

Re: IHH Britannia!
Hi, just blasted it over the mendips - it's quicker than the 9f but struggles more up the hills. Sounds like a steam engine working hard - unlike the engine brake which seems to be `weak` to put it politely - very impressed overall - at least now I have finished 1 scenario without failing cos I was too busy admiring the loco - it's taken all day!!

Re: IHH Britannia!
the 9f and the Britannia sound the same having been at the controls of Oliver Cromwell ( lucky me) and having been at the controls of a 9f I know what they both sound like when you work em hard. Im told that internally they are almost the same.....just be glad it chuffs and has a whistle eh...

Re: IHH Britannia!
Beyond a the difference of wheel arrangement and chimney, design wise the 9F and Brit are the same, the 9Fs boiler is actually based upon the 7MTs boiler (according to Wiki information) Riddles basically changed the wheel config with his tried a true method of Austerity 2-8-0 into the 2-10-0 of the 9F. Both designs were built at Crewe for the most part so sound wise they shouldn't be much different and argueably the 9F should actually sounds like a Brit considering its design and specifics are based off the Brit.
From personal experience aswell, I experienced a close up of Oliver Cromwell on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway back in 2009 in the steam gala and have a DVD and checking after the mentions of sounds compared to ingame there isn't much difference, there quite close but are, like all sounds which are computerised slightly different to the real thing but not so glaring blunt that one could say they sound nothing like a 7MT.
While I believe comments and critisim should be given for any product bought, I think its abit over the edge to call the developer lazy and note that everything is recycled without being 100% certain the sounds are or are not what they are.
I've bought both the 9F and 7MT, and will agree there are similiarities between the sound sets, but as I noted above, I would also expect this with a designs which are based off one another. In my own opinion the sound feels correct for the size and feel of the locomotive and as noted by another user here, yes they are a softer sound also, which co-insides with the design aswell, it was mixed traffic purposely built so I wouldn't expect the heavy bark and roar of a freight workhorse.
Anyhow, I won't say anything more or comment on what else has been said as a moderator is keep vigil over this thread, I'd hope people can keep it decent so this thread remains up to praise the work and also give helpful feedback encase there is any bugs with the pack also.

Re: IHH Britannia!
So if I were to buy one of the two, which has the best model?

Depends if you want a heavy freight loco or a mixed traffic loco...pilot37 wrote:So if I were to buy one of the two, which has the best model?

Re: IHH Britannia!
Model wise the 9F and Brit are at the same standard, the Brit has 3 different, what I would call shielding(are they smoke deflectors?) on it and the nameplates colour different according to which varient you picked from the scenario editor.
Its also down to preferences aswell, while the 9F did do passenger it was more a heavy freight steam loco and alot of current freeware scenarios are based around that.
However the Brit was mix traffic and did passenger aswell as goods duties, its down to which you like more and which routes you have, I have personally bought the Brit for the steam railway routes I have plus the new WCML which comes out on Friday which should be a nice run to stretch the Brit's legs on.
Edit: Heres two screenshots, one of the front shielding I was referring to and 9F Evening Star next to the Brit with my max graphic settings all on:

Re: IHH Britannia!
Hi all
I have both models and think they are very good. Having never seen or heard either in real life, and video varies from recording to recording, I personally think it sounds are fine, much better than the 4mt in terms of sheer volume alone. As far as comparison to the 9f I think that was clever model choices by Sly. That is 9f and 7mt, challenger and big boy, both share many things in common so to say one looks like or sounds like is stateing the obvious. I'm very happy with the model and enjoy the driving experience this model has.

Re:
I'm sorry Sly, lazy was the wrong word! The model is stunning as are all your models. It just sounds like the default sounds up to about 25mph thats all.
