My apologies if this was brought up earlier, but wasn't there an issue that if one of the folders within the package was empty or contained a file with 0-bytes, that this would cause the installation to fail? I had thought this was later solved through an update, but then I live under a rock sometimes...
Cheers!

Hi Stephen,
Upon seeing this screenshot It came to mind that I had this issue with the PM when Railworks first came out. I just clicked continue. I was just about to post a topic and then it started working OK. It slipped out of my mind at the time but that screenie triggered my poor memory.
Kind regards James.

I have another query with the Package Manager function, in that it doesn't overwrite files that have already been installed. For example, I recently downloaded an American Diesel Loco and installed it successfully, the creator today has now updated the bin file, however, I couldn't install it as Package Manager quite correctly stated that there was a bin file already installed, is it not allowed to overwrite 3rd Party files for updates, it seems to do the ones by RS.com that we get through Steam, efficiently enough??

Hi Stephan
Go to your railsim folder and copy the iow folder. Go to your railworks folder and paste it in ..easy . You can use rw tools to get the route number to make it easy to find. Hope this helps

Hi

Again I'm not sure how much investigation you've done so I'll apologise if this goes over old ground. Also bear in mind that I'm no expert, and that I'm working on the basis that if something is toast to begin with you can't make it any worse!

I've Googled the initial error message and it very much looks like it's a .NET issue.

You may find this of use -
Microsoft also released a hotfix (July 2nd, 2007) to prevent the error "Attempted to read or write protected memory" that has been plaguing the .NET 2.0 platform for some time now.
The hotfix can be downloaded from http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStud ... oadID=6003
Or alternatively there appears to be a Microsoft Knowledgebase article on the subject here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923028

Hope that helps, if only to confirm that it's a known .NET error. Probably.

Cheers

Bob

Thanks for the suggestions
Still no luck at the moment
At least all isn't totally lost thanks to using my alternative method of manually placing files
Kind regards Stephen

Are you trying any of the solutions for what is now looking more and more obviously a .NET problem, or are you still persisting with fiddling around with RailWorks?

Hello
No I'm not persisting with fiddling around with RW
Unfortunately I've had no luck with the .net solution
It is terribly confusing when you see patches dated 2007
Like ive said I am not a computer technician
I've resigned myself to not having PM functioning in RW
Surely Railworks itself relies upon .net and this works perfectly
Thanks anyway
kind regards Stephen

Hi Stephen I thought I would post some of the things we talked about on the phone. You need the help of someone who has better computer skills than me or you but who lives in your area or see if there is user who would help via Remote Access. It might be the way forward

Good evening everyone
Just a quick update before I go to bed
I've had a telephone call from James (Retro) and we've compared .net
We both have identical .net installations including the hot fix updates
James has no problem at all with the Package Manager
Im not sure what's going on?
Kind regards Stepnen

Hi Stephen, even though it appears they are the same, it does not necessarily mean that .net is not playing up on yours assuming that is where the problem lies.

What you "could try" ( after creating a system restore point of course ) is doing a repair of .net 3.5 sp1 which is found in the program and features applet of control panel. How you would do that is highlight the program and select "change/ uninstall " and it will give you the option to repair the installation or un-install it. Select repair.

Now I am not saying you should do this but it is a option ( and why it is important to have a restore point just in case ) , and perhaps some others users may put there 2cents in as well on any risks involved.

A few weeks ago, a fellow user and friend, Valenta17 was having a problem which wouldn't rectify no matter what, re-installations of .NET didnt work. In the end, I sent him a file from my computer which was core to the framework and hey presto, all is fixed.

I picked up on the problem from here but cannot for the life of me think what it was. I shall investigate.
