Re: How Wide Spread Are The Package Manager Problems?
Hello again everyone
It's a pity there isn't a diagnostic tool that would at least point towards the problem
Unfortunately a string of code isn't much benefit to non computer technicians
Thanks anyway for your help
Kind regards Stephen

Hi Stephan
That was p-retty unhelpfull ,sorry bout that but could not resist. Try going to your railworks folder and delete everything except assetts and content folders then verify game cache. Make sure to back up first.Hope this helps.
Phill PS I just copy and paste my old stuff over.

Re: How Wide Spread Are The Package Manager Problems?
Hi Stephen.
I get this problem as well. However I just click on continue and everything is OK. It is a problem that has occured since one of the recent updates, but I couldn't say which one.
I also find my package manager is very slow in displaying the full GUI, but I can click on the appropriate buttons that are displayed and again, everything seems to work OK.
I am running Win7 64 bit. Quad core processor and 4 gig RAM.

Hello Gary
I was beginning to think it was only me
Not being a computer programmer doesn't help decypher the cryptic messages
I just wish the package manager was a seperate entity in RW similar to Rail Simulator
In RW I have no idea where pm is actually located it is hidden within the bowels of RW
Thanks for posting on this thread
Kind regards Stephen

No problem here, although PM has recently become quite slow to start. Xp proffessional 32bit Service pack 3. PIV single core.
Regards, and good luck with a solution.

Re: How Wide Spread Are The Package Manager Problems?
If you've been following this it has been a long running problem for Stephen. The screenshot on page 1 shows that RW has indeed been installed from scratch recently, and there have been updates since it was first experienced. Despite a reinstall the problem is still there, so this suggests it is not an RW problem but rather a Windows or .NET issue with something particular to his installation of Windows. It could even be faulty RAM but the package manager uses a very small amount of RAM so I would be very surprised if the package manager tripped that issue but running the RW game (as opposed to launcher) does not.bigphill2 wrote:Hi Stephan

If you do have issues with the package manager and you're not too worried about the need to uninstall entire packages that often, then simply install 7-zip, enable 7-zip context menu actions and put a shortcut to steam\ateamapps\common\railworks in the folder you reserve for RW downlaods. Right-click dragging onto the shortcut and selecting extract here is faster than using the proper package manager even when it's performing properly, the only downside is the lack of an uninstall function.

Re: How Wide Spread Are The Package Manager Problems?
Ive had that problem for months, i had it well before the German Update. I contacted RW support and the asked for some log stuff the last email i recived was on the 10th May
(I now use Winrar to unzip the .rwp and install it that way, it works most of the time

Re: How Wide Spread Are The Package Manager Problems?
Hello
At present I use winrar to manually place the files etc into RW
I still wonder though about how I would port the IOW from RS to RW
I believe this needed the legacy installer from RW Package Manager?
Thanks once again
Kind regards Stephen
Ps Is there a diagnostic for testing whether or not RAM is failing?
By the way the sim itself loads up without any problems on my computer

Re: How Wide Spread Are The Package Manager Problems?
I wonder if it could be an incompatibility with a program running on your PC. You try using msconfig (run command is best way to it) and stop all programs running at startup except Steam. You can also shut down Services too, though need to hide all MIcrosoft services before you axe the rest. Restart Windows and try the package Manager. I feel it's worth a try and it would eliminate most of the possible external interference.

Sure is - http://www.memtest86.com/ There is a free download or a paid for CD. From recollection it creates a bootable CD to test the memory outside of Windows.stephenholmes wrote:Ps Is there a diagnostic for testing whether or not RAM is failing?

Re: How Wide Spread Are The Package Manager Problems?
Hi Stephen,
), but can't you use RWTools to do the above (I'm sure that's how I did it) using the "Copy from Rail Sim" tab and selecting "Copy Routes" and "Copy Assets" Tabs (Assets to be copied from the RSDL/IslandLine folder in your RS Assets to your RW Assets folder using Copy & Paste).
I may be talking through my hat (as I often doI still wonder though about how I would port the IOW from RS to RW
