Aye thats pretty much what is happening, the old site will still be in the cache untill all DNS servers get updated across the board, which can take anywhere between a hour to a few days depending on the speed in which adminstration over the servers work at.USRailFan wrote:Probably some ISP's DNS server(s) that are slow to update. Re: IHH Offline
Strange, the site shouldn't be going on and off-line, once the DNS updates have filtered through to your ISP then the site should be available from that point on.
I put the site back up around tea time, had to alter a few things Sly had done.
But the site should be good now till Sly comes back of holiday and then I'll have to fix it again.
As a consequence of having to move host's, and someone going off on holiday, it does mean the brakedown crane will be delayed for a week.

Hello
I'm currently seeing this message when trying to view the IHH site
I hope this can be resolved quickly and not upset any impending releases. Not to mention I like looking at the screen shots!

So much for the new server then!Sly401 wrote:Hi Folks.
Just to let you know the IHH site will be down for a couple of days, while we change hosts.
Most unfortunate but the existing hosting company really has left me in the lurch so no alternative.
The good news is service will be faster and have back up reliabilty so a similar situation is most unlikely
Thanks for your understanding

It's not a server problem, it's a *service* problem.jimmychoo wrote:So much for the new server then!
It's very difficult, as a start-up, to estimate how much bandwidth you'll need, and service providers usually "tier" their price-breaks in distinct chunks, each for a set price.
For example, so-called free hosting (it's usually paid for through advertising) may have a tiny capacity of maybe a few hundred megabytes of space for content and a bandwidth limit of maybe 3GB per billing period. Stepping up to a managed, hosted domain type service with support thrown in, half a gigabyte (or more) of storage and a 1TB bandwidth limit would see the cost rise from zero to circa £500 a month.
Unless you've got product going out the door all the time, then it's rather difficult to justify half a grand every month (and to potentially be locked-in to a minimum-term contract) if you're not making that and more.
Make sense?
Rik.

Thanks Rik for explaining it in detail-makes sense now. I never really knew how these things worked but I'm a little wiser now,so I'll be careful before I jump in feet first in future!Wikkus wrote:It's not a server problem, it's a *service* problem.jimmychoo wrote:So much for the new server then!

Hehe, no worries Jim, all part of the servicejimmychoo wrote:Thanks Rik for explaining it in detail-makes sense now. I never really knew how these things worked but I'm a little wiser now,so I'll be careful before I jump in feet first in future!
Although I did re-read what I wrote and wondered if it sounded a little like egg-sucking tuition for grandma...
Cheers, Rik.

Re: IHH Offline
As has been stated earlier, it wasn't a server issue, the new hosts are excellent and very quick to resolve any issue's.jimmychoo wrote:So much for the new server then!
It was purely down to bandwidth, the site is getting hits from Germany, Spain and the USA as well as the UK.
It's proved to be more popular than we anticipated. There is a temporary page hit counter at the bottom of the opening page so we can get a quick preview of the site visits to hopefully anticipate further bandwidth requirements.

Re: IHH Offline
The site comes on fine for me but I can't seem to see the top image on the website... All I can seem to see is a box with a red X in the top right hand corner as if there is an error, can see the Breakdown Crane below it and all the other images and text just fine...

Re: IHH Offline
Maybe it is about to be updated, with the upcoming Western pack or something? That was my assumption at least.
Re: IHH Offline
As of right now, certain content has been refreshed with some "imminent" flashes and a picture of a really rather nice pack...
