Whistle/horn stops looping
A few minutes into any scenario, whichever train, be it steam or deisel, something happens to the whistle/horn sound.
When I first set off, the whistle/horn behaves like it should, i.e. when you press SPACE it sounds continuously, but after a while when you press SPACE you just get a single note for about a second. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can fix it please?
I have searched through previous posts but only found a couple about EAX settings. I haven't got EAX, just Microsoft HD Audio. I have an AMD Athlon II x2 245 processor, 2.9ghz 32 bit PC, 3gb ram, NV9600gt graphics with latest driver. DirectX v.11
Thanks.
Dave

Just a quirk. I have had this happen randomly too many times to count. Only way to fix it is save your scenario, and completely exit the game and reload your game.

Welcome. It's a minor annoyance yeah. Just email it to RSC support in the off chance they have a solution or aren't aware of this one yet.

They should be aware of it since it has been doing that since RS days! Very annoying at times especially when you don't want to exit and reload

Cheers Martin, yeah, surely they are aware of it if it's been around so long. Ok, hopefully it's on their to-do list.
Thanks for the replies

I'm not 100% sure but I seem to remember reading somewhere that this is a memory related issue.
Happens to me occasionally but I'm not sure that there's anything you can do about it.
Glenn.

Re: Whistle/horn stops looping
Thanks Glenn, I have Windows 7, 360 gb HD, 2.9ghz dual core processor, 3gb ram and NVidia 9600gt 2gb onboard, so surely that's enough to run RW. I dunno, is it all down to system settings? Your average gamer who buys RW, obviously with a decent machine that meets the specified reqs, shouldn't have to worry about messing about with settiings, possibly mucking things up in the process, they should be able to just load up and play.

For me, it's only really annoying when you have an engine that does this constantly *cough*158*cough*.

Re: Whistle/horn stops looping
I'm not sure its strictly a memory issue, more likely a sound resource issue in RW (and RS) itself - my guess is that, one way or another, the audio buffers are not being released properly and so, with after RW has been running a scenario for a while, it sometimes runs short. This issue has been around since the beginning with RS and thus far hasn't been touched or even officially acknowledged, so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it to be fixed unless or until the sound engine gets the overhaul it really needs.

Re: Whistle/horn stops looping
Thanks all, I tried reducing graphic settings to best performance with higher FPS but the problem still occurred, although it seemed to take longer to happen, i.e, on my A4 scenario with graphics up high ( Lower FPS) it happened after about 4-5 minutes, but with the graphics turned down ( higher FPS) the problem happened about 11 minutes.
