The 17 is a loco I know next to nothing about
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_17

Not to mention the superb MSTS add-on...

While in reality these may not have been the most successful BR loco type, from the train simmers point of view they are an ideal "road switcher" (to coin the American phrase), can be used for shunting but enough speed and HP to keep up on the main line. I'd buy one with correct cab and sounds.

It looks like we might be doing quite well for diesel shunters in the future. :D IMO yards and depots just don't look right without them.

Now we just need an expansion of some small steam locos - perhaps a WD Austerity 0-6-0 for some industrial work.

And I thought I'd got off the hook with the 14 and 31.

Really? I thought that was one of yours, "gertrude"?

Interesting prototype and one might be able to squeeze it into the bracket of 'shunter' by virtue of it being akin to a US "road switcher"...

I was trying to think what could cause the sparks other than, possibly, carbon deposits being burnt off due to the extreme thrash that the poor thing was being subjected to. Quite a testament to their diesel-hydraulic power, really, that a solitary 14 could shift a 2,000 ton stone (ballast) train.

I always found them to be aesthetically pleasing things anyway and I think they were a fundamentally sound design, just introduced that little bit too late.
