Indeed and besides, this engine has a flippin' great big torque-converter which must produce a fair bit of driveline "drag" even when the reverser is in neutral...

I must say I have just been having a good look at the Conflat A wagon that's packaged with the 02 and this is a really nice addition also

I believe that the Class 03 was often coupled to a short wheelbase wagon such as this to ensure the track circuitry registered their passage correctly - would this have been the case with the 02 also, or would they not normally operate in areas where track circuits were present, being primarily intended for docks and other industrial-type uses?

Just a taught.
Maybe the F5 HUD should mention "drive" instead of "1"

I'm very pleased with the 02.

I found this picture on the 'David Hey's Collection' (wonderful) website in so called typical surroundings I would say.

Image

The accompanying text confirms that these 02s were 'primarily' used in yards and dock areas, because their short wheelbase was suitable for the tight curves and small turntables. No 100% proof that they did not work in other areas (with track circuitry) but anyway; read for yourself:

"..Introduced in 1960, a total of twenty Yorkshire Engine Co 170hp 0-4-0 diesel-hydraulic shunters were built for use primarily in goods depots and dockland areas which still featured tight curves and small wagon turntables. The rear entrance to the cab was reached by a railed verandah above the buffer beam, which can be seen on No D2866 as it emerges from Salford Yard in July 1963. The diesel shunter's very short wheelbase and similar weight to the L&Y Class 21 0-4-0STs enabled the versatile machines to take over light shunting duties on Mersyside and Manchester.."
'Why is it that the railway station is so far away from the village?'
The local pauses for a while, then replies:
'They thought it would be a good idea to build it next to the railway line.....'

Where's Tom aka "g0fthick"? Maybe his "teddy bear" might see the light of day? :)

Hey !who's been looking at my computer?
a 13 you say? not something that I would do on it's own but Hush! don't tell the boss, the ' 0-6-0 standard' and it's variations is a sneaky secret squirrel side project hidden away from the rest of the team.
They don't understand the shunter love.

The 14 will see the light of day, RS.com have acquired Tom and his teddy.
01/03/04 (Zane) 05/06 and and 07 will all see the light of day if I have anything to do with it.

The 17 is a loco I know next to nothing about

thanks

Just got to have an 03 for the Newcastle-York route. Most pictures I have seen of Newcastle Central in the 70's & early 80's have an 03 & it's match truck lurking in the background. Good news on the Teddy Bear - perfect for the Blyth & Tyne route.

As far as the Class 17 is concerned, what a complete disaster. Built from 62-65 and withdrawn between 68-71. So much for the intended 'standard' Type 1
Amazingly, one of the 117 built, D8568 has been preserved.
Expanding the TS wagon fleet.
