Klaabu,
Email support if you want RS.com to listen or notice, they all get read dispite what you may think.
Many forums get surfed by myself, and I do take part in threads I am interested in, but I'm afraid I do not go out my way to read all the threads.

regards

Derek

Klaabu wrote:My post was intended to be question to other forum members what do they think about physics of this loco. Yes I'm thinking physics are unrealistic. Locos speed can't never drop down so fast. Compare Class 02 and Class 08 free run distance. Accelerate both locos up to 10 miles per hour and release speed controller (on Class 02 also disengage gears). You can see how Class 02 stalls while 08 is running on freely.
Haven't tried this myself, but my first reaction is that this is not a like-for-like comparison; I am not a physicist, but surely inertia has a role to play here? You're comparing a diesel-mechanical 0-4-0 weighing 28t with a diesel-electric 0-6-0 weighing ~50t... I'd be interested to see some feedback from someone who has a better understanding/insight into both prototypical performance and the minutiae of this program.
Being a physicist, I just thought I'd jump in here and say that the friction coefficients seem reasonably fine. The class 08 being approximately twice the mass of the 02 would freely roll for about four times the distance of the 02 with identical rolling coefficients and wind resistances. The performance seems on par with other locomotives in the game.

For me one of the attractions of these "funny little shunters" is that they shudder, jolt, stop and start
I haven't the foggiest whether the 02 is a 100% accurate reproduction of the real thing, but I do know that it feels right

Thanks again Derek for a really nice addon

I think the physics are right on this model.

I'm used to watching a little 44-Ton GE switcher in a yard near my home. :) The Class 02 couldn't be much different. 8)

nice work Derek
As promised the Class 02 running the Ramsey Quayside
For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it ;-)

Exactly, and the fun thing is too that this 02 is so different from the other locos available in RW so far. I too have had no problem 'yanking' , as somebody calls it, the coaches and wagons and even the black 5 around the yard. It goes slow and noisy but it goes. I have never tried to pull anything on (steep) inclines yet, but I feel these engines were not designed for that type of work. The only thing, as I have ementioned in his tread before, are the lights that go out but I am sure there will be a solution for that soon.

Greets and happy yardshunting, guys!

Cheers for that Rich! That's what I was going to write...

Seriously, now that I've had a play with this charming wee beastie, it's a super little thing and performs in a manner as I'd expect it to -- not a race-horse, more of a pit-pony :D

Cheers Derek, Adam and the gang!

Have you put it in gear? It helps if you press F5 to get the HUD (twice expands it), then press E, and check gear says 1.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Simple answer, no. Now I know how and have just been for a drive. :D thanks for the key to the puzzle. I have only ever been using F4 for driving until now.

How about the 3D modelled cab then, not just in the cab view. :D

The guys here are not letting make another shunter for ages.
:(
I got caught looking at 08/11/12 variations yesterday :)

Class 03 will be next up I guess later in the year.

hmmm shunters

It'd sell a hod-load, chap. Lots of uses for the venerable 03 and its match truck on the Eastern Region... It's one of my favourites :)

You might even do a chop-top version for the Burry Port and Gwendreath Railway...

Question is not only in friction coefficients. There has to be difference between loco running freely (throttle on 0 position and engine idling) with gears engaged and gears disengaged. When gears engaged loco has to start to brake slowly (exactly like it does now) but if gears are disengaged loco has to run freely without braking. Currently there is no diffenence.

with gears disengaged, gravity and friction will still take its toll...
