Tutorial Topic
Hi would it be possible to have a new forum within the RW section that would have just tutorials for say example how to do basic route building or how to set up signals in a route or how to stop crawling AI in a senario. I also think the thread should be locked so only the useful information is listed and its easier for the reader to find the information need. I know a lot of this information is in the wiki but at times I find that as clear as mud
just an idea thanks.

Re: Tutorial Topic
We already have the following RW forums...
[RW] Help for Beginners
[RW] General RW Discussion
[RW] Steam Help
[RW] Screenshots
[RW] Videos
[RW] Route Building
[RW] Route Building Challenge
[RW] Building Rolling Stock
[RW] Scenario Creation
[RW] Cab View Creation
[RW] Scenic Item Creation
[RW] Signalling
[RW] 3D Modelling
[RW] Atomic Distribution Network
With all of these already running, at times it is already hard enough to find information which has been posted in a place where it is not expected, and then there are some people who spam the General RW Discussion forum because their thread will get read more there than in the proper location. I can't think of any tutorials that may be required that would not best fit an existing forum. A tutorial on importing DEM data would sit best with all the other route building threads in the route building forum, and if the tutorial is that good I'm sure it could be stickied at the top.
On the other hand, have you tried the RSC video tutorials?

Re: Tutorial Topic
Hi thanks for the reply I agree there is a wealth of knowledge in the forums, but trying to build a route and then find all the information in one place would make it a lot easier than having to search through about 10 different forums and the RW wiki. I thought it would be easier to have a centralisied tutorial forum where its more like a one shop stop. regards.
Re: Tutorial Topic
This is true, but not just with route building tutorials, but every tutorials, should be in one section, with separated subjects.monster666 wrote:Hi thanks for the reply I agree there is a wealth of knowledge in the forums, but trying to build a route and then find all the information in one place would make it a lot easier than having to search through about 10 different forums and the RW wiki. My top wishes: Realistic engine physics - Superelevation - Multi-core support - Remove Physix engine, and use better one

Re: Tutorial Topic
I would agree with monster666 that there needs to be a better way to identify and locate tutorials.
I have written several beginners guides for both Railworks and Rail Simulator and these in total have been downloaded over 20000 times, though these have never been given sticky status. However all references to them in the forums has to all intents and purposes disappeared unless one trawls through threads from the distant past.
There are many tutorials in the download library but some are now extremely difficult to find if the searcher does not know the authors name.
To appreciate the difficulty, try to locate my tutorials in the library without entering anything in the Author field.
For my tutorials this problem could be due to the fact that I called them Beginners Guides though both 'File Type' and 'Class' were given as Tutorial when uploaded.
One problem is that when searching in the UKTS Library one cannot search for Tutorial under File type or Class by themselves.
I find other guides/tutorial from other authors also very difficult to locate even when I know they exist but have forgotten the author.
While major tutorials do find their way into the library many small or short tutorials have never been uploaded into the Library and only exist in a thread, though these threads sometimes contain very valuable assistance and not just from the initiator of the thread.
transadelaide's idea that all good tutorials should be given 'sticky ' status ' is fine but it does not happen. I have just checked the Railworks Forums and can only find 4 - maybe 5 -'sticky' tutorials. The situation is better in the Rail Simulator forums but would beginners to RailWorks look there?
In the Home page of UKTrainSim is a link to Tutorials but there is only one tutorial listed for Railworks.
So, yes, I agree with monster666 that a better way is needed to locate and identify tutorials.
