RW- East Somerset Railway we need you!

Hello
Im not sure if this is allowed but ill have a go anyway! We want to ask people if they could spend perhaps 1 hour a week + on helping us make our railworks route. We can make the route but we want to assign some people to do some jobs, small amounts of money will be available per sale:

Locomotive: Will be needed to make all the loco's on the route, this is ongoing so if we get a new loco here we would ask if you can make it. We insist on having a cab view. Lots of pictures and measurements can be provided aswell as boiler pressure etc. Here is a taster of the locos needed:
Image
Image

Rolling Stock: Will be required to make carriage and freight wagons aswell as old abandoned wagons Image

Buildings: Will make a few houses (not many), the chicken farm and the station buildings and engine sheds. And most importantly the platforms themselves.
Image

Clutter: Will make station signs, lamps etc

Foliage and animals: Will make a few cows and a lot of trees and bushes, Image

Track: Will (obviosly) make the track for the line. We have simple rails (very bent) with a lot of rust and half rotted sleepers.

All of these roles get £1 for every sale made, and you are welcome to take up more than one role if they wish. We will hopefully release it late this year then provide constant updates. Here is a video i made of the line a few weeks ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oA5-1rnPOw

This stock list shows all the wagons, coaches and loco's wanted. http://www.eastsomersetrailway.com/page.php?pid=78

Many Thanks!

was just thinking about the East Somerset Railway today. i don't think i've ever been  . won't be going for a while longer either as my cars just gone catastrophically wrong, good old Fiat/lancia  . I'd be willing to help, but my modelling skills are virtually non-existant, but i sort of know my way around blueprints and editing bin/xml files, and have started dabbling in sounds.

what is the status of this route, is it to be along the lines of the Talyllyn with donation to the railway with the purchase or is it more of a payware for profit of the creators rather than the railway?

well you are always welcome to visit! i shall soon start doing sounds but not yet. Im sure your blueprints and editing bin/xml files will help, im not exaclty sure what they are so can you give me a brief explanation? It will be sold then £6 will go to the people here and the rest of the money made will go to the ESR but it is yet to be decided how much it will cost to buy.

Thanks for your interest!

It's certainly an ambitious project!

But if we were to simply look at the locomotives you're after, producing the list to RW standards including cabs at a professional level would take several artists the best part of a year to complete. And that's putting 40 hours a week into it, rather than one.

If you're including locomotives and stock, your best bet is to choose those that best represent the line's activity and go with those. If you find time after that then produce more, but unless you've done it before, you'll be surprised by how long it takes to produce just one locomotive with cab.

so are you suggesting we ask kngtrains if we can use his loco's (45xx, 94xx etc) but i certainly want a cab so some will have to be made for that.

I think gofthick is saying that there are 8 "current" locos listed in your link.
As an example, the cab I made for the prairie plus the time it's taken me to make the Q1 loco would be about 5 months. You want to release this at the end of the year, the maths doesn't work.
Also if you are offering money then you are open to comparison with payware sales, so asking for 8 full locos with cabs from 1 person in 6 months for £1 a time (when 8 * £12 = £96) I would suggest is terribly unrealistic.
So I believe gofthick is saying, asking for less locos (only the main ones that are used) would be a better idea.

I'll be honest, as laid out above, if 1 person offers you 1 loco with no cab you should dive on it with both hands!

Also the tasks you list are vastly out of kilter - as shown above, assuming someone doing this in their spare time, the locos are 4-5 months work EACH.
The rolling stock is probably 2-3 weeks EACH if the user has made stock for that region before (re-using wheels, bogies, buffers, etc saves a lot of time)
The clutter is maybe a month in total, depending how much there is
Likewise, the flora and animals are 1-2 months I would guess

I'm not sure what to advise. You might find people to do the last 2 tasks, I would highly doubt you'll get the first two in individual people.
This is only going to work if the money is irrelevant to the modellers, so you need people who have a passion for ESR and want to do it for the interest of that railway. I would also suggest you lower expectations, allow multiple people to offer anything they can and accept whatever is offered as long as it meets a reasonable standard.
Oh and forget the end of the year, you are attempting something that's not even been done in RS/RW yet by anyone other than RSC's Isle of Wight route.
A full route, with custom buildings, scenery and a full set of custom rolling stock.

I hate to sound so negative, but I think I've been realistic.
I'd like to see this route with all it's accoutrements, we need more fully contained packs like this rather than routes with no relevant stock or locos with no relevant routes to run on, but you have to operate within the bounds of where RW is at right now - and that means many hundreds of hours to produce even some of these single items.

Sorry :(

Pete's hit the nail on the head with what I was trying to get across. You simply couldn't produce what you're after in six months, even if you already had a team of willing participants.

As for the inclusion of kngtrains content, that's something you'd have to talk to Kevin about. If you're planning on selling this, then complications can arise from including freeware content, and those are complications you'd have to resolve with the author.

It is alot better to make stuff freeware, there is alot less copyright issues to worry about and everyone will love you for a well created freeware asset! Anyway i would be intrested in helping, thought the only things i know who to do is reskin and scenario creation! :-?

What's happening with this? At the moment I am building The East Somerset Railway in Railworks, so if you have any buildings ready then could you release them please. This would enhance my route greatly. If you want I'll send you the DEM in a PM.
Best Regards
Seb :D

There seem to be multiple posts on this - http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 4&t=112570

Unfortunately and with all due respect the comment about sending someone the DEM indicates a fundamental lack of understanding of how to build a route. If you're the route builder, it's you that needs the data in your RW DEM folder so you can pass along the route and to either side of it with the "t" key setting the terrain.

This is a different one I'm making one on a thread in the route building thread.

But wasn't this user trying to get a team together for the purpose of this possibly being payware?

For that reason, I cannot see the user "releasing" the objects to you in order to enhance an alternative route to their payware one! :D

You also had me confused at the "send DEM in a PM" quote! Surely, if this route builder was as serious as mentioned above, then he would have the DEM which is freely available anyway?
