I notice that the IHH content class20, 9F and Peaks are for sale directly from their site and also via steam. The Class 56 is only available via the site directly.
The question is is it better to get the content directly or via steam.
there were "free" bonus items added via steam when one on the products was purchased.
also the 9f appears to have a free class mt5 and mentions xtra stock .not mentioned on the steam download, but these may be in the rolling bonus content.
I presume the class 20 is the same, but is the extra pack compatible with the steam version. has the patch on the site been applied the the steam version, sound updare and dirty livery?
will the peaks on the direct site be the same as the steam versions.
if there are inconsistencies with the content it may make scenario writers have problems making realistic scenarios with either default content only (booring) or having to pick and choose as what to go with (missing out when you bought the wrong version).
IHH content direct or via Steam?

Re: IHH content direct or via Steam?
The main upside of buying through Steam is that any DLC patches are applied automatically. However, Steam takes a big cut of the retail price for DLC so I prefer to buy direct from the author and put more money in his pocket. As you say, IHH encourage this by offering bonus content for some direct purchases.
Add-ons are sometimes modified in between direct and Steam release but usually a patch is offered to early direct purchasers to bring the two versions into line. They usually install to the same folders regardless so you should not have an issue with scenarios.

I also buy direct from the author, as he deserves the full cash payment.

Re: IHH content direct or via Steam?
Hi, I also prefer to buy direct but the only issue I have, is with stuff that has previously been released on steam overwriting patches that have been sent out by the producer, until the steam version has also been patched to the same level - it seems to be if you start a model with steam you have to stick with it or reinstall patches after every verify cache or programme update. No biggie really guys
but does show one of the disadvantages of being tied to a distribution system if you plan to go `solo` at a later date.

Re: IHH content direct or via Steam?
I have split a number of posts off into a new topic that deals with questions about buying additional content not via the internet but via boxed items.
The posts are of interest but it seemed grossly unfair to single out IHH for this since a lot of content is delivered online. I know RS.Com were also mentioned but the title of this thread primarily relates to IHH.
I would have thought some of the smaller online providers would find it unfeasible to ship DVDs on receipt of cheques etc.
The new topic is at http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 4&t=107240 for those who wish to continue the discussion there.

Hi Guys
I certainly would be willing to mail a CD/DVD on receipt of a cheque..
however it would have to include costs and being realistic, perhaps be loaded as quite simply I don't have time to send out lots of discs.
But the service could be available for anyone who doesn't wish to purchase online.
