Re: 4gb Patch
Thanks for the link Andy, I would have had to use the increase userva variety as running Vista. After having read the pros & cons I shan't bother with it as machine is stable at the moment so don't want to upset it!
Thanks to John as well - made it sound interesting enough to have a look at the link!

Thanks Bill, you're rightstyckx wrote:Black8, just report posts you feel are out of line and let a mod deal with addressing the person directly. You may find you might end up breaking a rule in the process and or enabling the situation to escalate further by addressing it yourself.

Out of interest could a simple "how to sort it", with a link for the patch, sticky be put up for this problem as it took me a while to find this thread and no doubt its a common problem for us all.

Hi Captain, may you explain which settings to change and how, please?CaptScarlet wrote:It shouldn't but it is something that is usable on a 32bit system as well if and only if the user makes a change to the USERVA setting of windows 32bit.markpullinger wrote:Hi, if RSC modify the programme to suit the 64 bit crowd, how will it affect us running 32 bit versions of the operating system?

Re: 4gb Patch
You should really understand what these settings are and how they are intended to be used before making any changes. It is very easy to destabilise your system or render it unbootable if you don't follow the instructions to the letter.msey0002 wrote:Hi Captain, may you explain which settings to change and how, please?CaptScarlet wrote:It shouldn't but it is something that is usable on a 32bit system as well if and only if the user makes a change to the USERVA setting of windows 32bit.markpullinger wrote:Hi, if RSC modify the programme to suit the 64 bit crowd, how will it affect us running 32 bit versions of the operating system?

See http://www.prophotowiki.com/w/index.php//3GB_Switch and http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/pl ... AEmem.mspx for some details of what the settings are and do.
I would draw your attention to http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 68&t=58280 in particular the bit that reads :
Please note that Atomic Systems cannot be held responsible for anything you do as a result of information or advice obtained from these forums, or from linked third party websites. You should fully understand what any recommended changes to your computer may do.

Re: 4gb Patch
Hi John, your second Link is a link to edit my post lol
. I read the first Link about the Userva settings when someone posted them up earlier. However, I did not understand how I could change them to suite the 4gb patch on my 32bit system

Links corrected
My understanding is that it can be used on XP SP3 Professional but NOT the home edition of XP.

Thanks John. Actually, I have Vista, but still, no idea where the settings I should change are, and how I should change them

Re: 4gb Patch
here is a link that explains how even if it relates to FSX and appears a little way down the page just above the section on adding memory. As has been said it has the possibility that it "may" cause stability issues so be careful.msey0002 wrote:Thanks John. will take a look after my study session, cheers Captain
Re: 4gb Patch
When I ran Win XP Home I used the 3GB \userva modification with no problems when I found that some high-end FSX addons were suffering from lack of memory. The advice to 'approach with caution' is well worth heeding though unless you are confident you can get out of any hole you dig yourself into!Easilyconfused wrote:Links corrected![]()

Re: 4gb Patch
Hi guys,
I was wandering if i could have a bit of help, i have read through the links and have successfully increased the amount of memeory on my system (32 bit Vista home premium). as a result i have noted a substantial increase in system performance.
My problem is how can i reference the increased memory so it is utilised my RW. The second link provided by "easily confused" has led me to belive that i need to do this in order for RW performance to improve ( as at the moment i don't belive it can access the new memory)
the link detailed what i needed to do but it only applied to older versions of windows, i was wandering if anyone using vista had followed these steps and had had success? or if anyone could point me in the direction of a similar link but applicable to vista?
Many thanks
Josh
